Here We Are Again

Hello, haters.

Two years ago, a "friend of RBD" was kind enough to register our domain name with GoDaddy and help us get set back up after Donkey shut us down.

Those two years are up. And unfortunately, we don't have our GoDaddy log-in information, which was long ago sent to a gmail address with an unknown password (the original one has been changed by someone or something, and we don't know what it is).

And so, for the moment, we are kind of fucked given the person who got us all set up no longer has the log-in info either, or has long since killed the information out of their own inbox, and no longer responds to our emails pleading for help anyway.

We welcome suggestions on how to get around this quandary.

P.S. DONKEY

  1. I have a go-daddy account I don't use (bought it after a drunken idea hit me that lacked luster come morning) that you can have, but I imagine that isn't the issue and the coding is.

What did they say when you called?

  3. GoDaddy offers a domain-buy service where they will contact the domain owner on your behalf and negotiate a transfer to you. If you think the owner would pay attention to GoDaddy's emails (despite ignoring yours), that's one option to try. That would transfer the domain into an account with an email address that you would always have access to.

    1. Will try that and hope for the best, thanks.

    2. On second thought, the only email address GoDaddy has on file for us is no longer accessible. I doubt our Good Samaritan ever checks it anymore, if they even still know the password.

  5. It's the domain that's gone though right, I assume you are still using the old wordpress blog, it's just pointed at the domain rebloggingdonk?

So just by a new domain, rebloggingdonk.co or .net, and then you can back order the old .com for when it beomes available.

Then you just need to point the old wordpress at the new domain. Where's The Professor?

    1. Prof FC here... Jacy is taking care of this behind the scenes, but it may take some days to resolve. Will try to assist if I can. Your suggestion is also a possible solution, thanks.

  14. I won’t write long today ... it will probably take me weeks, if not months, to process this ...

Jacy, life is funny like this: if you “assume custodial maintenance of Reblogging Donk's own soul” (as Elizabeth Gilbert says), life actually gives it to you!

  15. Because all of the info provided to GoDaddy was fake, I have no way of providing them any information to recover the password. When I try to get them to approach the registrant to buy back the domain, all of the registrant's contact info is fake. I cannot access the email account originally set up and that is where I am now -- pleading with Google to let me into that account, even though I don't think I've ever been in it and never had a password for it that worked.

  16. Jacy, do you suppose that the bulk of RBD regulars don't know to hit the RBD tweet that links here?

Maybe you could put out a cat cave signal via tweet that will show up in a common Google search (e.g. "Where did Reblogging Donk go?" or "Why is Reblogging Donk down?" (w/ this URL attached) & lure the strays in that way?

And then maybe the 'friend of RBD' is among the strays & will eventually get here that way?

  18. I am sad to see this happen, but it's really unfortunate you guys weren't safeguarding your domain.

Where is your hosting account? GoDaddy? Or somewhere else? Do you still have access to WP database? Did you ever back it up?

I think you should just register a new domain and start anew, which is what you did two years ago. I am hoping that your database isn't lost along with the domain.

Post an email and I'll help you if I can.

    2. I think they host the site at HostGator.com, so all the posts, photos and other goodies should be safe. Just no way to view them at the moment.

      Mistakes were made. :(

I hope everything is resolved! I am embarrassed by how much I miss RBD. What the heck am I supposed to do when I don't feel like working? Entertaining cat videos on youtube can only take me so far....
