Julia: Telling Facebook Stats

Thanks to the awesome (and dashingly attractive) Loren Feldman, who has dug up this graph that shows the sudden extreme upswing in Jackles "fans" on Facebook in the last couple of weeks.

And thanks to Milo at the Daily Telegraph for giving our hard-working commenters a shout-out on his blog.

UPDATE: It was, in fact, one of our commenters who first unearthed this graph.

173 comments:

  1. What sucks is that she is turning into the living example of "keep hating me, you're making me famous". Makes me vom in my shoes a little.

  2. "the awesome (and dashingly attractive)..."

Jacy, I love you. Loren is a fox.

Also, didn't TJ link to that graph first?

  3. This is fun -- thanks, JuliaRuliaFooliaDrooliaGrueliaTooliaZOOLIA!

  4. And yet, despite all the effort, she still holds nothing more than a solid top 15 position in the LEAST POPULAR facebook pages with a clearly negative growth rate. Numbers are even lower now than in the list.
    Current count: 16,871 and falling.
Life's good. It'll all be fine in the end.

  5. Jacy - just an FYI:

There were a few RBNS-ers who posted a link to that graph yesterday (myself included) in the 'Tweets of Greatness' thread (anon 12PM, Total Jing 12:52PM, anon 8:43PM). So, it originally came from us, not Loren Feldman.

  6. Awesome! Thanks for posting my rant against her at your site, Milo!!
I don't mind much about Julia, as annoying/rude as she truly is.
What I *DO* mind is her blatant practice of censorship, abuses of power, and her rather public disempowerment to the modern female gender as a whole.

I want to see her pay for this latest little stunt. It's one thing for REAL celebrities to do this, quite another for hack wannabe's like her.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Blushing. You girls slay me. Mwwwwwaa Big fake foolia kiss to all!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well, my comments are gone from her fanpage. Whatever, you're still a corndog, Julia.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks for the mention, Jacy.

Now, I have a serious question for you Julia-watchers. Can anyone tell me who her "high school sweetheart" in Boston is?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Loren, you're adorable and funny. Keep up that biting acerbic wit and the amazing puppet shows.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I linked to the graph after an anonymous commenter did. I have no claim to being the first. But thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't know, Milo. Part of this blog deals with Julia's constant violating the privacy of others. Dishing on her high school sweetheart here would be more or less the same and thus make this whole thing just as hypocritical as Julia herself.
Besides, I don't know anything about this and don't care to know about this either.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Milo - Dan is her high school 'sweetheart'. She talks about him a lot on NS (just google 'Dan' on her NS page). But I don't think he lives in Boston. Guess he's just there for the weekend?

We are constantly disgusted with her here for talking about Dan, since he's quite sick and she shares private personal info regarding his illness on her blog. Truly repulsive behavior!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Loren,
Be sure to look at all of "fb-did-a-bad-bad-thing's comments under the facebook scheming thread. GF must be a lawyer. Here is an example of her spin on this fiasco:
This might happen all the time, but it does not make it right. If you read through FB's TOS, you really would not expect this kind of behavior to occur. That is, one would not think that a friend request would be equivalent to an opt-in marketing request. I don't really care how they spin it, it is shady and they need to modify their TOS to make it clear that a friend request has commercial ramifications

  15. "I was going to write “Best. Video. Ever.” but then I realized that separating words with punctuation marks to Underscore. Their. Importance. is so 2007."

Don't know why...but I just dissolved into laughter at this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dan,Julia's high school sweetheart, is in Boston to receive cancer treatments.

    ReplyDelete
  17. RBNS has never used the name Dan if referring to him. It's out of respect. Jacy has been extremely clear about this, over and over again. I think he's off limits, personally.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I personally don't see the big deal in mentioning Dan. Dan actually maintains a blog of his own that is very frank.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Milo, not that you should take editorial suggestions from a teacher, but I think there's also a story in her faux stats. She receives, according to Alexa, about 14,000-16,000 hits on average. Julia says she received 500,000. That's just PATHETIC.

    ReplyDelete
  20. She is trying to sell him. Literally. The late night conversations, transcribed and posted on her blog are one of the last remaining elements of her original website - where she actually wrote memoir-ish essays. She is trying to create an atmosphere where her readers feel like she's a friend. Cancer Dan gives her a chance to seem compassionat eor something.

So that she can turn around and sell ads on her site.

CD is being exploited alright, and disrespected. But only by Julia Allison. Also, he's clealry consenting to havingthe shit up on her blog. So phuck him too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dahling,

I think it's fine to discuss him in the comments especially as it related to her "pimping" of his cancer. I just meant that revealing his full name or other details in an RBNS post would kinda be crappy unless of course it was really called for. I think we are in agreement.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh the whole thing is just so ridiculous. Followers, friends, numbers, counts. It's all so desperate and hard to watch. A "moviestar" and a desperate nobody have public meltdowns in an attempt to soothe their insecurities over meaningless numbers. It's literally hard for me, and saddens me to watch. I mean Randi Zuckerberg must be a fucking idiot to do this in light of all the recent problems FB has had recently with TOS bullshit. I have two sisters and if either one did some bullshit like this, they would know to run for the fucking hills. This whole social media thing is really fucked up. I've gotten so frustrated by the stupidity and fuckedupness of people on the web that I've been driven to puppets, and this site of course.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bravo, Loren! And don't we agree that Nonsociety is anti-social, both clinically and in web speak? What social element does it have???? Even when the gals repost each other's blogs they rarely, IF EVER, converse back.

    Lazy ass mother fuckers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. all these young social network people - the zuckerbergs and karps and lodwicks - are incredibly arrogant. They have bought their own hype about their "creations" being the future. But they don't know how to even pretend to be professional. I think ina year, the idea that Zuckerberg turned DOWN $500 million for facebook or whatever is going to seem monumentally, historically, biblically dumb. Facebook will not survive - something new will come along.... And the backlash is already begining. There's a lot of ill will toweard FB. There was never this kind of animosty toward myspace, it just kinda drifted into a quiet boring seocnd place.

    ReplyDelete
  25. CD tips off many reblogs and blogs re: julia. Some say that he tips at the request of julia that sick puppy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, sorry Loren, but Julia has won me over. By @ing me my new bff JULIA ALLISON has become my favorite person and I just can't say "nasty" things about her anymore. I really do believe she gets half a million hits and has 18k fans! She's so wonderful that it must be true.

    Also, she is very thin.

    ReplyDelete
  27. partypants:

and she's so thin and fun, too!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't forget how nice she is, guys. SHE IS NICE, PEOPLE!!! She's is sooooo crazy nice!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Loren, I agree that these "think outside the tent" social media pow-wows are no different than the circle jerks that occur in the boardrooms of corporate america, except the social media geeks skip the Power Point presentations, have cooler toys & amore relaxed dresscode. It's all a bunch of yadayadayada. Case in point: Even Meghan Asha commented that she can't wait for people to be able to visit NonSociety and be able to "get it" at first glance. (I would think that after a year, it might be evident?) JA has offered wordy and esoteric explanations of NS' mission. Funny...it all looked like a giant pink photostream to me. But what the hell do I know? I can't discuss the finer points of Malcolm Gladwell's latest while slurping oysters in my ironic slanket. (LOSER.)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Some Anon, please take Ironic Slanket as a name. Please.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Not that it's really important but I linked to those facebook stat page in the comments here yesterday when this discussion first started. I don't know when Loren did but didn't he get into the whole issue some time after RBNS brought it up? Anyway petty I know, but even an anon 12:34 wants her credit - if it's due :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I claim ironic slanket, if nobody objects.

  35. Sweet!

I must say that I hate the ironic slanket because these social media clowns are supposed to be clueing in plebes like us about the future. I know financial consultants (typically thought of as very button-down, square-ish folks) who were giving them as Christmas gifts. Now the social media goons are going to parade them around: "Slankets! Oh, man - We kill ourselves! Is anybody tweeting this?"

    Durrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  36. sadface, I think you should know I'm making ironic tshirts as we speak that say "Slankets! Oh, man - We kill ourselves! Is anybody tweeting this?"

    ReplyDelete

  43. Yo kiddos!
Guess who just got an e-mail from our good buddy Julia after I vented at her site about the Facebook fiasco? Figured I'd share my frustration here:

    Hi Sheryl,

    I'm sorry I upset you.

I think you're great, and it's sad to lose you as a fan.

    x
    julia

    ___________________________________

    Hey Julia!

I appreciate the sentiment, but you REALLY turned off a lot of folks with this ridiculous little Facebook stunt you and your buddy Randi pulled off here.
Helps to have friends in high places, doesn't it? I mean, to Hell with blatantly violating the Facebook TOS; you obviously need those precious page views and attention far more!

Meanwhile, I think you both made total fools of yourselves and Facebook over this. We're not in high school anymore, so why the head cheerleader mentality here?

Spamming people on Facebook who once genuinely wanted to be your friend just so you'll get more page-hits is beyond disgusting to me. You may think of it just as business, but the way I and many others see it, this just reeks of desperation. I gave you more credit than this in the past, but obviously all of us other Facebookers are just more random pawns in your ongoing fame-game.

You should use your hustling skills to create a career-revision for yourself that goes beyond just a failing vanity blog and online ego-feeding tactics like this.
It's such an insult to yourself to have to rely on such obvious publicity stunts just to retain some semblence of whatever "business" it is you're still trying to promote.
This is the sort of thing that made me quit visiting NS period, quite honestly.

Good luck to ya, but I think this latest abuse of power was one big fat FAIL. Ahhh well. Thanks for the memories!

    ---Ciao for now,
    Sheryl

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gotcha, 1:35. Jacy is probably extremely busy. She's usually quick to correct things like this.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Loren,

Puppet show is excellent! Almost choked on my Chipotle burrito. maybe Jacy can put it on the main page.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I just checked what expensive gadget Meghan broke now, but so far nothing.
She wrote about the demise of pleo, however, that baby-dinosaur robot after the producing company went bust. Ok, in this post she accidently linked to a story about the removal of the baby-shaker iphone game she mentioned earlier, but never mind. The point is this:

"Finding out that Pleo is extinct makes my day!
Are consumer robots dead? I don’t think these bots are dead. I just think if the price point is higher than $200 the consumer robot better be useful.
Pleo is simply not useful, it’s plain scary and strange. No one in this economy is going to spend that kind of money on a random toy that has no utility!
My advice: make a robot as useful as the iRobot and consumers will buy."

Now replace the relevant terms with nonsociety, blog, mission, fame/large success etc. and you have got yourself a straight to the point description of the girls' "business". She should have made a cloze out of this...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sheryl, why did you go and make JA sad? You could just play along and stay a fan but no, you gotta go and ruin all the fun.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sheryl,
I'm sorry you got such an assy (is that a word?) from the pageview hustler.

  55. I DON'T WANT ANY SOCIAL MEDIA THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH JULIA ALLISON OR RANDI ZUCKERBURG.

    THEY ARE POISONED LOSER IDIOTS.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 12:22 PM, People already view Zuckerberg's turning down of $500 m a huge mistake. He is never, ever going to get that kind of offer again. His incompetent management-style and infighting at his company is already being chronicled by the news/blogs, the TOS debacle was painful to watch and Zuckerberg (and all other social medIa/Web 2.0 types) can't seem to comprehend the fact that their social media tools and merely trends that will fade out quickly (Friendster, anyone? Myspace is even becoming less irrelevant). The fact he lets his sister who has some bogus non-title at his company publicly embarrass his company's practices by CHRONICLING her manipulation of the site to benefit her ass-kissing "friends" shows you how much shit the Zucks is getting into.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Has noone noticed this gem of a post on her Facebook page?

"Hi again ... to everyone who feels they were unfairly branded as a "fan," I'm sorry for the terminology. I didn't choose it! I would hope that if you were fine being my "friend," you'd be fine being my friend on a public page. Unfortunately the word Facebook uses is "fan." I wish it were "friend," and again, I'm sorry that it isn't. x j"

Erm, so what she is saying is she just wants everyone to be her friend, but she can't because she has a fan page? Yet she also has her own page, which is separate from the fan page and they COULDN'T POSSIBLY be merged because Facebook is incapable of doing so? So she has no choice but to call all of these extra people fans, even though she hates the word 'fan'. It's not her choice, it's Facebook's fault so please be nice to her and don't blame her all you fan/friends/unwitting victims ok? Is that what she's trying to say?

What. The. Fuck. Is. This. Girl. On?

I laughed and cringed at the same time when I read that piece of wisdom from that riddled with nonsense brain.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Former Fan Sheryl nails it. Milo exposes the dissembling juicebox. And Loren gives us a laugh out loud puppet show. With all right in the world once again, I'm headed out into a beautiful Chicago afternoon. I hope you have a lovely day!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Why doesn't she just have a private profile and a public profile? Oh...wait, that would mean she would just have 'friends'. You can't monetize 'friends'! You CAN impress potential sponsors with your grip of fans, baby!

I think that's about as clear as we can make it.

    ReplyDelete

    This from Urban Dictionary:

    (please replace "Britney" with "aplusk")

    Tweet-Dropping 461 up, 331 down
When a twitter user has a one-way conversation with a celebrity so that to the users followers, it seems like they are talking to a celebrity and thus are instantly über-cool in the eyes of their followers, when in fact they are a loser with nothing better to do than have a fake conversation with themselves.

Similar to name dropping IRL, but even more annoying and even less likely to be true.
Tweet-Dropper: @BritneySpears How did the barbecue go? I heard Justin Timberlake was there too >.< awkward?

Tweet-Dropper (A few minutes later, without a reply from Britney): @BritneySpears Haha yes, I suppose after a while it got pretty normal for both of you, you must go to loads of the same things!

Tweet-Dropper (Again few minutes later, still without any replies from Britney): Yeah, it's been great! How do you squeeze so much into 140 chars lol? =P

Tweet-Dropper's Follower: Wow, this guy I'm following is having a conversation with THE Britney Spears!

  102. Anon 5:04,

this isn't all about JA. If all this is really true it sounds like FB is doing something pretty wrong. I don't care if JA gets attention or not. I think what FB is said to have done is a problem and it's worth speaking out about and looking into. Whether JA gets attention from it or not is irrelevant to me. I don't base my actions on how they might affect JA.

I/m guessing that most of the people who are speaking about this are just speaking out about somthing they think is shady, and even if they are concerned more about JA than FB, why should people not voice their concerns based on whether it's what JA might want or not?

  104. FB did the same thing with friend requests to barack obama which were ultimately converted to fans. i'm not saying it's right, but it's certainly not a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  105. So, Julia is a sick puppy.

RBNS needs a new name: Kicking Sick Puppies!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I still think you guys should cut it out. If Obama did it, then it's not a big deal. If JA is doing it, then it SHOULD be a much less big of a deal. Stop feeding her ego!!!! And fuck FB, whatever seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  107. It certainly is a big deal. It might be the biggest Web 2.0 news story of the year. If it has been going on for a long time, then that just highlights how out of touch Facebook is with their own legal department. They claim Facebook Pages is opt-in, but then they throw people into the system without an express opt-in in violation of their TOS. Hell, they could have written a different TOS, one that allows friend requests to become fan requests. The fact is they didn't because they didn't want bad publicity. Then, they circumvented their own rules when they felt like it. This is a pretty big fail, a huge fail with civil and potentially criminal ramifications. JA was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Why does some random asshat always assume we must be ugly, fat jobless idiots to dare post frequently at an anti JA-site?
You know knothing about us, random asshat. You're a killjoy and I'm going to equally assume that you weren't hugged enough as a child and likely sniff your fingers after playing with your bellybutton.
I'm also going to be the random asshat that replies back with the ol' "takes one to know one" sentiment.

And as long as we're assuming things about other randoms here though, dare I assume that you masturbate to Julia Allison photos alone in your basement on most nights after you're done with your big important job?

Now I'm going back to my meaningless job and existence. But at least my existence is more meaningful than Julia's. You don't even have to assume that either, random asshats!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm a total idiot. God, didn't you know? I live at a facility for those with mental handicaps.

  114. Ya called me julia once too manyApril 24, 2009 at 6:05 PM

Asshat who knows too much about smelling their fingers:

Wow, why did ya have to go to the fat and ugly place, Asshat #1 only assumed you didn't have jobs. Man, tough day, no $$?

Nope, never 'bated to a julia photo, but then I don't like her much,

look, I know many of you like to think you're brillant, but this FB story has you all salivating, oooohhhhh, we got her now, [rub hands together]-- how sad and pathetic for you.

these comments are weak, your shit isn't funny, calling me an asshat and accusing me of bating to baugher is simply ridic [your commenters are fond of that word--see what I did there?]

Talking about stupid assumptions, you think I know nothing about you....should I start by linking which anon is also a 'named' commenter?

How about the commenter who states having one job, but is really an assistant?

    baby steps...

    ReplyDelete
  115. "it's certainly not a big deal"

what is or isn't a big deal is a matter of opinion not fact. if it's not a big deal then I'd think you probably want to move on instead of commenting on how just little of a deal it is. let those who are concerned about it talk themselves blue in the face if they want. why care about this un-big deal and who's talking about it enough to even bother commenting on it?

also in reply to Christan 5:25, I think this would be an issue whether it inovlved ja or not. haven't there been several issues now with fb making changes and doing things kind of behind the scenes without giving notice to users in advance and people getting up in arms about it? this isn't so different. it was noticed here because this site focuses on julia so there were enough examples of people being made fans of her page that a pattern was noticed, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be an issue if the pattern had come out in some other way about some other facebook page.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  121. also in reply to Christan 5:25, I think this would be an issue whether it inovlved ja or not. That could very well be. I guess what I should have said was that I think the hubub about this is beyond ridiculous. You friended someone on Facebook that you mercilessly ridicule then get pissed because she didn't ask your permission to make you a fan. Who GIVES A SHIT?

Personally, Facebook could slip off into the ocean and everyone who worked their could swim to shore and all the profiles could go away and it wouldn't have an ounce of an affect on my life. The freaking president of the United States did this and there wasn't this much controversy. So not a big deal.

and to clarify, because none of you are capable of reading between the lines, i think julia allison is a vile, heinous, privileged, twit.

  139. We know 6:42PM, you are just worried about FB facing the music.

    ReplyDelete
  140. No Jason. I hope Rosie ignores her completely. Now that would be a kick in the ass to JA.

    ReplyDelete
  141. anon 6.44: i couldn't give a fuck about facebook facing the music, but i'd wager when he refused the ten million bajillion dollars he was offered for it, mark zuckerberg sealed his fate. but thank you again for proving my point that the intelligence level of this blog and its commenters is well below par.

    ReplyDelete
  142. 6:51PM

So, if you don't care about FB, don't think the FB thing is a big deal, don't support JA, and think that this blog is dumb, why are you here?

    ReplyDelete
  143. anon 6.56: because i detest julia allison and enjoyed following RBNS's commentary on her. however, the quality of the posts and the comments has degraded severely. right now, i'm just killing time on the interwebs until my husband gets home from work. however, this thread cements my feelings that this blog is a joke and i will likely only be back infrequently, if at all.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Oohh. You got them. You outed their hypocrisy. They're here so the must have the same rabid interest that you have. Or they're Julia. Only Julia would find some of this completely unnerving.

    Wrong. Fail. No.

Some of you have gone off the deep end. This FB thing is a great example of how little you people have going on in your lives.

Like we don't know that all the ones who post on here every 3 minutes during the day don't slip on their little anony masks for Friday and Saturday nights so they don't look like total losers.

    ReplyDelete
  145. 7:04PM

Well, you should just be happy that simply visiting RBNS does not confer consent to be opted into a "RBNS Fan for Life" program. Otherwise you would be screwed; no big deal though.

I see so many similarities in the named comments and the anon comments--

What I love best, is the people that post here aaaaallllll day are the ones telling the non-believers that if we don't like it here we should go, hmmmmm, where have I heard that useless battle cry?

Oh, right, TMI comments, back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I have it on good word that JA is on the Chinatown Express to Boston. There is a friend of moine aboard who can smell desperation

    ReplyDelete
  157. Anon 7:45 - Did that really warrant mentioning? She already told us she's on the bus to Boston. What does your insider tip really add other than credence to the accusations that this site is populated by stalkers?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Whoops, I forgot to sign. That last comment was me, Crazytrain.
(Not that anyone really gives a crap that it was me . . . I just don't wanna be one of those alleged commentators who ditches their handle on the weekend so as not to appear loser-y. I've got no shame.)

    ReplyDelete
  159. Thank God for the commenters who come here to repeatedly read, comment, reply, and attack RBNSers for reading, commenting, replying, and attacking here. I'm so glad they come here to remind us of what's what.

Those commenters are nothing like the people they mock and attack. Nothing! I know that because they've said so themselves. Duh. I also know because one sign of having a life and being disinterested is going to sites with topics you're disinterestd in and reminding the people there who have no lives that they have no lives.

Also the less you care about an issue the more you will post about how little you care about it, so remember that. Also remember that spending too much time here and caring about this drivel means you are a loser. There is only one caveat. If you show how much time you spend here and how much you care about this drivel by revealing how familar you are with the content and commenters here while simultaneously mocking the other commenters, then you are not only not a loser but a person with a life obligated to let the losers with no life know it, dammit!

See how that works? Basically if you are here and comment here because you disagree with the site you have a life. If you're here and coment here because you agree with the site you are a loser. If you don't see the difference it's probably because you are a big idiot with no life.

So make sure you never forget that just because some commenters are here reading and commenting doesn't mean they are anything like the commenters who are on here reading and commenting! Not at all darlings. Not. At. All.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Personally, I love the "Chinatown Express" detail. Delicious.
