TMI Weakly: It's Tough Being 25

"You can figure out a way to get paid for anything," says Jackles.

Hahahahhahaa!

  2. Julia makes absolutely no sense in the first half of this video. Is she talking about a quarter-life crisis? Or what? MAKE SENSE!

Going through bouts of depression does not a quarter-life crisis make. It's a complete re-evaluation of your values, your goals, your dreams, where you begin creating who you really are.

  3. Meghan Asha Parikh, look at yourself now! Great job on that passion of yours!

Next up, Meghan reviews the modern wonder of cooking, the toaster oven! Yay Woot!

  4. It's really funny how Julia keeps rearranging and scratching at her plastic-y hair extensions. Did she get some HairDo Clip Ins by Jessica Simpson?

  5. I watched this and did not think quarter life crisis. I thought- three whiny, spoiled bitches moaning about how they can't stick it out at a 9 to 5 and need time off to figure out "what they really want to do." Fuck that. Not everyone has the luxury of quitting their stifling hedge fund job and explore what makes them happy. They don't have the money or the means - they need that paycheck. Entitled brats like this make me sick. They think they're too good for a day job and think every stumbling block is a cause for a life crisis. STFU.

  6. The women are pushing 30. They are not some fresh out of college 22 year olds setting off to find what they want to do with their life. They are blaming their previous career failures and missteps on having a "quarter life crisis" and in turn using that as an excuse to flounder about and explore more things to fail at. They can do this because no matter how much they fail, they will always have money, family and support to fall back on. Their sense of entitlement makes me sick.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just think, added up they have 75 years of experience. Now that's depressing.

  8. Dear TMI-ladies,
Here's a clue about the real world: one of the good things about not being a pretend princess still living on Daddy's bucks? You can't afford the luxury of a "quarter-life crisis." You're doing things like scratching out a living, raising a young family, perhaps making car and mortgage payments, struggling thru grad school, trying to repay student loans...any one of a bazillion things which..um...sort of keep you busy at something other than admiring what you see in the mirror or crunchin' those abs at the gym 7 days a week. And, oh by the way, some of those things which we call "work" (a word you're incredibly free with but have no real concept of) can actually add a bit of meaning to one's life. Yeah, it's true. Might give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  9. SO well said JiveTalkin. One glance at Mary's blog today proves your point. What did she do today? Went to the gym, cleaned her jewelry and bought a MacBook. This is her "work." UGH.

  10. Anon@5:54, let's not forget she got her parents to shell out for a kindle for Cancer Dan.

  11. I know it's just Blogger causing it, but I am tickled that Mary looks to be half out of the picture through this whole episode. Symbolism!

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1. Meghan (or Megan, or Meagan, or however you spell it) please STOP with the extra stretchy smiley face. Dude! Seriously, it looks creepy. You said your mom and sister already told you about your weirdness on the screen. Listen to them! Stop with the weird faces.
    2. if Julia is the supposed "Life" expert in this sandwich, why is Mary doing all the talking? Just goes to show that even when the subject is something she claims to be an expert at, she still doesn't know what the heck she's talking about. She has all this "experience" being on TV - why does Mary outshine her in every episode?
    3. What's the point of bobby pins AND headband? Shouldn't it be one or the other? Weird.

I think I have more but I can't think right now. Watching that killed a few brain cells...

    ReplyDelete
  13. hahahahaha when did julia become the life expert? that made me laugh for QUITE a few

+ why is meghan even joking "call me ashton" when he's MARRIED to the gorgeous demi? lawd.

how come it doesn't bother me when mary references seth godin but it will if julia does? maybe because I've been getting his feeds for awhile now and he's very, very, very AGAINST everything NS is, and mary is now out

you know it's interesting, they're talking about quitting a job to do what you love.. here's the thing. as mentioned before, MOST people can't do that, but will take the time to hold a job and manage to work on what they really want, maybe sacrificing sleep and leisure activities for that. what these girls fail to mention at all (fitting because they're obviously spoiled and haven't the slightest idea) is that many people who quit or cut their work to part-time to try and make a dream work will drive themselves into debt and further stress themselves out in order to do it. so that they apparently produce nothing but constantly go on vacations and to conferences where we don't see any knowledge gained (if any) applied or in-depth coverage (nothing ever even scratches the surface, really don't get that), it just doesn't fit at all. for all their allowances, freedom and access to money, they arguably should have been much farther than some of those who have to struggle. since they're lazy, however, all they managed to do was pour money into making the outside appearance look good while there continued to be nothing of worth to be found beyond it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. These fucktards are past 25 already. They're pushing 30. They've obviously never had to support themselves or work 9-5 jobs like normal people. What in God's name should they feel any sort of crisis about beyond the fact that their lives appear so shallow and pointless to the rest of us here?
How about actually VOLUNTEERING and seeing another slice of life instead of wasting time whining about how tough it must be to suddenly not be able to afford that $400 purse or those $800 shoes or the fact that you aren't going to look young and wrinkle-free forever?
Maybe then single guys that aren't the rich douchebags they've grown accustomed to might actually start dating them. Because most men prefer women who have their own purpose and pursuits and careers, you dimwits!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mary outshines Julia in every episode. Julia fidgets constantly and it's very distracting.

"You can get paid for anything"-just killed me. I can't even parse it. It's just insipid and stupid and especially horrifying given the current state of the economy and the unemployment rate.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fewlia HE DON'T WANTCHU

    ReplyDelete
  17. Funny that Miss 250+ TV appearances can't muster up good presence or insightful convo on the relevant things, but was real quick with quips when talking shit about celebrities. Not just funny. HILARIOUS.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Continuation.. also funny that Mary can't spell for shit yet puts out more writing in her blog (even before leaving NS) than the "writer" of the group has lately. I guess her fitness dedication just implies that she can work hard when she wants to, but she always makes Julia look bad without even having to try.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Awww, shit, you can't make this stuff up! Meghan, the tech expert, while attending a conference on how to blog, manages to repost the same post 3x in a row:

    http://meghan.nonsociety.com/

Screen cap and up it Jacy, plz!

  20. I am trying really hard to have ANY reaction to this week's Trainwreck Meets Indipidity here, but I seem to have lost the will. This would be only half as revolting if they were a comedy act called, say, the Douchettes, but they actually seem take themselves and their verbal diarrhea seriously. How can they not realise what they are doing there? How???

    ReplyDelete
  21. its easy trust fund babies tend to be completely isolated from reality in every way

    ReplyDelete
  22. But @ 6.48, not all privileged kids are like this. It is beyond me how this triad of people with a significant advantage in terms of cultural (not necessarily spelling, though), economic and to some extent social capital can just profoundly and utterly blow it. It is frivolous and obscene and - don't worry, I'm getting ready to leave the soapbox - maddening considering the countless people in this world who actually struggle each day to make a difference and the world a better place with not even one tenth of the support system these three have.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Obviously none of them have student loans to pay off... I'm all for pursuing your dreams, but for most people (myself included), quitting my job with no safety net (and parents who since my graduation day have instituted a very firm 'don't even ask for $10' policy) would basically spell out homelessness. seriously. like most people, i had to tolerate many shitty jobs while secretively looking for the next opportunity. these girls are so ungrateful. i'd respect them a lot more if one actually looked in the camera, acknowledged that they've been the beneficiary of monetary support from friends and family (and yes that includes free airplane tickets, clothing, gifts and stock portfolios!!!), and acted thankful.

    ReplyDelete
  24. There are plenty of kids who come from privilege families who actually feel a sense of guilt and annoyance at not being able to go out and do things for and by themselves. Some parents choose not to spoil or coddle their kids, but exert lots of control, giving only what THEY feel the kids need. They otherwise make it difficult to request money or apply plenty of provisions if you want access to it and there's plenty of pressure placed on these children to achieve at least to the point of their successes. Such kids are more driven to try and achieve and do things for themselves and on their own terms, it gives a feeling of competence that they haven't gained from being provided for, NOT spoiled. Those types will feel that adversity would actually have done them some good and that money isn't everything. They seem to be more embarrassed about being from a family with money, downplay it extremely or don't want to discuss it, and work really hard to do things independently as a result. Julia has been raised nouveau riche and extremely spoiled. This is normal.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Megan: "I know what it's like. I worked at a hedge fund and it was awful"

Waaaahhh! "I had to spend a year remodeling my condo"

Sweetie, my heart bleads for you.

  26. rando and kinda OT but related to we live in public:

"The web would look a lot different without those two historic — if unfortunate — events. We might have skipped blogging and moved straight to vlogging. The end result would be fewer citizen journalists and more Julia Allisons, and we’d be all the worse for it."

  27. Another thrilling episode of the tard circus.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They actually make me feel better about myself. 2 years of therapy sisn't even accomplish such a feat.

    ReplyDelete
  29. lol pp

I can't stand them. They try to relate and it's so fraudulent. If they want to lie they should admit their parents support them alot and if anything play up that they feel insecure because they want to do things without parental support. Fuck, am I giving them ideas? Well © me anonymous if they decide to use it. Anyway, it's all stupid. I don't buy the whole "it's so hard, blahblahblah". Um, no. They have UNLIMITED resources and parents who apparently don't care about throwing money at them. There are people whose parents tell them, whether there's money or not, that they are going to earn whatever they want and they go out and do it. We can partially fault the parents, for sure, but we can fault them as easily for being so insipid as to believe they could just buy or fake everything rather than putting in the work with ALL they have and are continuously being given into their 30s. No.

    ReplyDelete
  30. All I could focus on in this episode was Julia's unfortunate jowl situation and her bouffant hairdo. She could endorse the Bumpit for reals.

Mary really seemed on top of things in this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yellow nails. Julia is almost 30 and wears yellow nailpolish.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why is Julia going to the White House Correspondent's dinner? I know, I know because she is such a fabulous journalist! Because she did such an AHmazing job reporting on her pink coat at the inaugeration?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Meghan is such a goddamn whiner. Boohoo, Daddy hooked me up with a job at the hedgefund that manages his money. Life was soooo tough.

I actually hate Meghan more than I hate Julia. She just doesn't give me much material to work with, given her total lack of content.

Anyone else notice how large Julia's head seems, compared to Meghan's?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is there a Baugher bingo square for using the term "pejorative"? Because there should be. It's one of Ju-Ju B's favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just here to defend yellow nail polish (it's a popular color for this summer, as is orange and please don't tell me how that is silly or I will be forced to tell you about your cerulean sweater from Filene's Basement and how it was actually inspired by Oscar de la Renta) and also laugh at Bunny Bingo's comment about Bumpits. Because when I saw Julia in this video all I could think is "Ohhhhhhhhhh. So THAT'S who's buying Bumpits".

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm not even sure Gary the nice Chicago Dentist is willing to marry Jules.

I really don't think any man with an internet connection and the mental capacity to google could possibly date her.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dahling,

I've already scheduled a date for Jackles and Gary the nice Chicago Dentist. They're going to meet on Candyality on Southport for the Jelly Belly tasting. Then down the block to Coobah's, all the trixie's recommend it highly!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Meghan annoys me as well, Dahlink. She's owns a condo in NYC. (and not on W. 179th St or in Flushing). You do the math on that one. I don't know why that irks me so much. She could be blowing her $ on Chanel bags and pink canopy beds (a la Juju), which would prob. be worse. I guess it's just the fact that she owns something worth around a million dollars (guessing? It's a 2-story unit)...and she hasn't done shit!
    Aargh.

Also, agree with everyone who said that most people don't have the luxury of quitting their style-cramping, soul-sucking day jobs and starting their own biz (that grossed $60 in its first year)...unless they want to give up the condos, vacations, pretty much everything, and share a studio with 2 other people

    ReplyDelete
  39. sad :(... I think Meghan knows she has something to be ashamed of, hence why she never talks about money or anything material. It's not a reticence born of a sense of class or tact -- it's just pure shame.

She knows she's a spoiled brat.

Julia is just an upper-middle class aspirer. I know that deep inside she has to be GREEN with envy towards Meghan.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know the twitter NY Mag thing was noted, but I think the thing that really bugged JA is that they didn't include her photo.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dahling, yes, the fact that Meg's family has so much cash that they're able to dole it out. "Here, honey. You need a place to live. Why don't you buy something? We'll put it in your Trust." And the private jet rides. Sick.

But, they're all pretty much spoiled brats. Like someone else said: Mary's "work" today consisted of 2 hours @ gym, a few blog posts, and buying a MacBook. They're ALL disconnected from reality. Non-society, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I had this quarter life crisis. I wasn't rich by any means- but very spoiled and bratty. So when it was time to make my own decisions I didn't know what the hell to do.

This is what happens when your parents don't let you fail and try again. You end up flopping and flailing and in Julia's case, dressing like a hooker.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Why is no one talking about the fact that Meghan reveals that she was totally creeped out by Julia when she first met her? Julia ended up shipping her three books the day after they met at a party or something. Warning signs were there, meghan; she came on strong and you let her take advantage of your passive personality.

    ReplyDelete
  44. is it just me or is the tide turning for jackles on twitter:

    http://search.twitter.com/search?max_id=1655042249&page=1&q=juliaallison

    OH HELL I HOPE SO

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, I found that odd as well. Who does that??? The next day?

    ReplyDelete
  46. She was working for Star at the time and had interns that truly worked for her because presumably they were getting the academic/career perks they signed up for (being the internship was under the control of the publisher). I'm sure she took 3 books off her shelf and had and intern hand deliver. Made her feel important.

    ReplyDelete
  47. what's with all the edits after each time Julia speaks? so annoying. If this how she comes across with all the edits I can only imagine how dreadful she is unedited.

she is so unnatural on camera, she mugs constantly and you can tell she's conscious of every exaggerated hand gesture.

she could benefit greatly from an on-camera acting class but she wouldn't be able to handle the ripping any competent teacher would give her.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How do you clean up your google search results like she did?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Meghan met Jankles through KK and that was well before the Star gig, think it was while volunteering freebie job with AM NY. Re-gifting self-help books is a tired and repetitive tactic for Foolia. The annual all-girl's Xmas party KK has every year at the 23rd/Park apt. is always an opp for JA to hand out her worn out DIY novels. Isn't that right Jules? Have a great day! XO

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sorry, yellow/orange nails were so LAST summer. It's blues and green this year, unless we're talking neon yellow 80s revival. And the line between cute yellow and jaundiced: you crossed it!

But I'm no expert...where's Mary when you need her!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Mary is soooo much better on video than Julia or Meghan. I wish she had her own episodes without JA and MA.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yaaaa!!!!

There were some really great comments about work and class and social advantages and growing up in america and the bubble of the internet and the anxiety of work-life.

    Yaaa!

This is what i like about following JA: tha she inadvertently exposes all these basic truths.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The more we talk about Gary the nice Dentist the more i want marry him. Think he'd enjou a southern boozer with cats and a green phone? No?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mary: colonics. Julia and Meghan: blueprint cleanse. TMI show: guess what.

    ReplyDelete
  55. PP,

I was going to set you up with Gary the Sadomasochistic Dentist from Detroit.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I finally figured it out! Meghan is a stillborn JA.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Has anyone noticed how completely out of date her wikipedia page is? It doesn't even mention nonsociety. Kind of strange that she would neglect it, since that's one of the first hits in a google search for her.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think a dog barks in the background around 4:12-4:15. Super professional.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @2:58AM

It can't mention NS, or RBNS would be sucked into her Google results. I tell you, this blog is going to get buried because it is so NS specific. Julia is super intelligent when it comes to her image. She realizes that all the negativity can be packed into the NS brand leaving the JA brand relatively untarnished. It's like a form of reputation laundering or something. Too bad Mary and Meghan took the hit.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Here, this is basically JA's FU to this blog:

    http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/22/how-to-manage-your-reputation-online/

"One person who has been successful in pushing down offensive content is oft-skewered Web personality Julia Allison. Ms. Allison’s name search incorporates many of the above tips. Ms. Allison also changed her last name, which is another way to clean your Web footprint, as is using a middle initial."

    ReplyDelete
  61. You know that the night Julia met Meghan, she saw $$$ signs and tech-ladder climbing possibilities written all over her. The books the next day are the same thing as bringing a bottle of wine to Rosie. Brownnosing in the creepiest way possible.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anon 3.33 My thoughts exactly. Toolia sized Meghannnn up and realized she could benefit majorly from a friendship with her.

Same thing with Mary - she had contacts in the fashion and media industries that Julia needed.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Any other puns on her name? What about ghoul-ia. Or Moooo-lia.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Okay folks we are bored..

The first one to put up a Craigslist ad for a NonSociety.com content writer wins a prize..

  65. we're due for another tweets of greatness post!

"ThirdWorldGirl: It pisses me off when someone like @juliaallison has a horrible business and when you call them out, they say lighten up. No its a BUSINESS!"

"sourpeach: i want to twitter stalk @nickswisher the way @juliaallison twitter stalks @aplusk."

"IndiscreetTweet: @juliaallison: OK, is TMIweekly a paying gig? And don't DM anymore if you aren't going to follow me back. Your DMs will go in the rubbish."
"IndiscreetTweet: An unemployed lady goes ... go-carting: RT @juliaallison: En route to go-carting with Kathleen & @MeganAlagna - yay!!"

    "RyanDDowns: @JuliaAllison ...yawn"

"Visionscaper: Phew! Luckily more people are following @jayrosen_nyu than @juliaallison ! ;-) Fun! The Twitter Approval Matrix http://bit.ly/vf4RN"

"carney: For the record, @mitchissmo: sends a correction @juliaallison didn't get botoxed in #YKNP. SHe got RESTALYN shots."

At this point SO. HAPPY. has been replaced with her current tweet ":)" lmfao. Also I'm sorry, but this one below is from her agent re: NYM Twitter approval matrix. Does anyone else see this as insanely condescending (not to mention enabling), just a way of saying "please continue being ridiculous, I have bills to pay!".. maybe it's just me.

"georgeruiz: @juliaallison I find your navel-gazing most amusing. Keep at it!"

I also find it really sad that there's some guy (won't name him here but it's shown in search results) that tried to engage her in conversation with -6- consecutive tweets (she'd been tweeting since then and it wasn't like she was getting a flood of replies) and she never bothered responding, as if she's a celeb. Really just rude.

    ReplyDelete
  66. where is that NYM twitter thing? I just got my copy yesterday, and it's not in there. is it maybe in next week?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I felt so sad when Julia said "and look where you are now" and waved her hand in Meghan's direction as if to indicate majesty. Maybe she's great behind the scenes but Meghan's Tech blog is GOD AWFUL. Truly.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Melissa Sue, I checked too! It's online only, didn't make it to the legit mag. http://nymag.com/arts/all/approvalmatrix/56103/

    ReplyDelete
  69. 7:23, that "look where you are now" was a nod to HERSELF. Meghan is nowhere now, given that nonsociety has been a huge fail. She had to toss that in b/c she delivered self-help books (seriously who does that) to Meghan the day after she met her and admitted it. It's funny because she's kind of also admitting she helped Meghan in her descent without knowing it. Just look at how vocal she gets when she discusses the Meghan situation - "I knew that she wasn't happy in her job... she was so BRUTALLY unhappy." Brutally? Really? Is she even any happier NOW despite that she doesn't have to work nearly as hard? And why is there an edit between Mary saying "what did she tell you to do" and the continuation of Julia's nonsense?

Also when she says "that guy" Meghan and Mary adopt 'knowing' faces and smirks; maybe that's Julia's big hangup (no surprise there) when she's discussing "that thing" that distracts you from moving forward. She's probably talking about a guy.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The funniest part of the matrix is that Spencer Pratt gets closer to news-sharing than her. She's a journalist, y'all, what's up with that! She's only inspid and navel-gazing? :/ Adding to the funny is that she promoted this on twitter (idiot) and um, despite SP's placement on the chart, he's STILL making more money than her and doing even less! Aww.

    ReplyDelete
  71. She's such a fool. Given that she just told the audience at the MIT Innovation Club talk that they should befriend journalists, her publicizing the fact that said journalists call her/her twitter inspid, banal and navel-gazing is a terrible move. Geez. No brain syndrome.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I left a thoughtful comment on the TMI website yesterday about how some people HAVE to work day jobs and don't have the luxury to pursue their dreams and it never got posted - only the "I LOVE THIS EPISODE!" comment is up there. Fuck you, TMI Weekly.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not to mention that journalists are "old media" in Julia's web 2.0 world - I thought she said you didn't need to suck up to old media anymore - it was all about connecting directly to your audience through your online brand. So now she can't even keep her own story straight? FAIL.

    ReplyDelete
  74. if this is where these 3 are with all their parents wealth behind them, where would they be if they had to make a living on their own?

folding sweaters at the gap, living with 5 roommates in queens (no offense, astoria), drowning in credit card debt ... hoping to marry a nice toll booth attendant (no offense, toll booth attendants)

    ReplyDelete
  75. If Julia Allison didn't have her parents' nouveau riche bucks, she'd be Jill from Long Island University. Slinging sliders at the local Applebees and shopping at Forever 21.... oh wait...

I have said it many times before - these girls could not handle "real life." They have been so coddled and spoiled their entire lives, that they could not hold down the most basic of desk jobs. Did you see Mary's post the other day on her blog about her "busy day?" She basically worked out, checked email and worked on her blog. Seriously.

These women will never marry and have children - they could not handle being responsible for anyone beyond themselves and their own basic needs. They can hardly take care of their dogs - Julia is constantly dumping her dog off on neighbors because of her "hectic" travel schedule... do you really think she could take care of a child? I predict in a year she will be back in Chicago living off her parent's dime - at age 30.

  76. PT *begin wavy dream sequence intro*

I've always pictured Jaba hitting 30 and turning into Brini Maxwell, or some character out of "Bye Bye Birdie" - flouncing about in pouf skirts, neckerchiefs, headbands, false eyelashes, girdles for her exanding waist. Talking in that OVER the top VOICE of hers about her LATEST - oh he's the ULTIMATE!

While her mom and dad just shake their heads at each other and pop valium.
