Julia: Meeting Someone She Had No Business Meeting

If I had known when I was 12 years old and reading MS. magazine that I would one day sit and talk with Gloria Steinem … I think I would have had a 7th grade heart attack.

The Twitter people:

trainwrecks2: @juliaallison Let us know Gloria Steinem's expiration date, would you?

queenalice: @juliaallison Bonus points if you ask Gloria Steinem what her expiration date is.

shanlovesotters: @juliaallison : make sure you tell Steinem the part where you, Julia, think that as a woman, you have an expiration date

102 comments:

  1. She might have ironed before she went out.

I hope she showed Ms. Steinem some of her greatest hits in terms of photos ... the underwear shots with the old man, the slutty Santa outfits, the condom fairy, etc etc. Such a proud feminist, our Jules.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I think she ironed her 6 strands of hair. It's nice to know that she rushed out for Gloria...

She's such a respectful young woman. They must have talked about so much

    ReplyDelete
  3. Julia really needs to address that expiration date comment she made. Pretending it never happened hurts her credibility and makes it even worse.

Even though the comment was moronic and insulting, living in the kind of environment she lives in (where everyone seems obsessed with youth) I can understand it slipping out in a weak moment. I'm twenty-four and already worried about fine lines, pathetic I know.

    ReplyDelete
  4. So, you think Gloria is teaming up with Facebook? God...no!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Btw, why on earth would Steinem be having dinner with Randi Zuckerberg anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Jaba's doing her sad cheesecake teapot pose and Randi is actually copying her. Girls you're supposed to be liberated from this shit not perpetuating it.

Also what was Randi's response to the hateful things toolia posted about her brother?

What hateful things about her brother?
I've heard people say she did that, was it recently?

  8. Don't forget "having dinner" and "talking" includes "in a room with 75 other people. It's all smoke and mirrors with this bitch, she said so herself.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dirty lake Michigan it was on the Jacob and julia blog which is linked a couple of posts down.

    ReplyDelete
  10. So, the "dinner" was this?

    http://www.news1130.com/news/entertainment/more.jsp?content=e052412521

NEW YORK - Journalist and feminist icon Gloria Steinem has been honoured by the New York City Council for her years of dedication as a women's advocate.

Or did they go somewhere more private after? If so, what's the point?

I'm quite over all the people she gets to meet. She took a picture with the Clintons back in the days. All this gallery of non-matching encounters proves is that this is her place in life: Meeting people who actually achieved something and then return to her pink shoebox continuing bein useless. What a life...

    ReplyDelete
  11. If that's the dinner she's referring to, her posts are seriously misleading. She made it sound like it was was a private dinner.

Also, Julia just posted that "Randi’s been responding to all of my reader emails tonight".

Umm... if your readers wanted to communicated with Randi, they would have emailed HER, not you. It seems disrespectful to have another person reply to emails readers have been kind enough to send.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Randi Z. twittered this:

As if the day could get any better, I had a private dinner with Gloria Steinem! Wow. I am still speechless hours later.

looks like a standard grip and grin shot: line up, next, next, next, next

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hopefully Gloria wasn't offended by the way Julia Allison smelled... she's been wearing that white oxford shirt for three days straight.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Randi twittered that she had a meeting with Tina Brown yesterday...JA must have tore the pelts out of her head when RZ told her she could not bring her along.
PS The stilted posture and uncomfortable grin on JA for the requisite photo-op with GS has fraud written all over it, you just know that it required great effort to keep that right hand from sliding up to her hip.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Seriously, if she sucked in any harder the earth's atmosphere would disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I find it scary to see how Randi appears to mimick Julia's pose and facial expression. Looks like Gloria Steinem was surrounded by killer plastic zombies.

    ReplyDelete
  20. THE WONK EYE!! OH GOD THE WONK EYE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Must suck to be relegated to RZ's +1. It would be refreshing if GF received important invites based on merit instead of after-thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So, what's the logic in pointing out Julia's increasingly "altered" looks in an attempt to look, I don't know. Telegenic or photogenic.... yet constantly referring to Randi as homely? Would it be preferable if Randi added some extensions, fake lashes, veneers, botox, and came up with a slimming signature pose?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon 846, I think people are just pointing out how pathetic it is that Randi Zuckerberg is imitating Julia Allison's tits out pose.

These leeches deserve each other. Julia gets to ride Randi's coattails and Randi gets to feel "pretty." Vom.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Randi looks pretty. Julia's worn that shirt like three days in a row.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the dinner with producer Meg, Meghan and Mary last night..

    ReplyDelete
  25. ^^ Yeah, notice how Julia Allison NEVER hangs out with her "BFF business partners" in a social setting. She only hangs out with people socially that she views as "important' or worthy of snagging a picture with. If her "friends" aren't famous, they're not worth hanging out with socially. Disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  26. serious question: does randi zuckerberg have a real job at facebook or a pretend one made up by her brother? because it does seem more and more like she's a complete moron.

    ReplyDelete
  27. According to her twitter, Randi Zuckerberg "leads marketing, political, and social change initiatives for Facebook."

Sounds like a made up job. She probably just takes meetings with different groups and gives them them some packaged marketing schpiel about using facebook to promote their initiatives.

    ReplyDelete
  28. RZ has a more polished presentation than Mark. He is known for being socially awkward. If you look at her twitter you can see that she is the face of FB. She met with at least four powerful media personalities yesterday. Her propensity for tolerating JA is a mystery and is more likely a testament to JA's stalker resolve.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe Julia actually has like 9 of those white shirts? Hell I have 5 myself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. PP, do you actually think Miss Queen of Cheap Julia Allison would buy multiples of anything, unless it's discounted Juicy sweatsuits? Julia has, like, five things that still fit her - hence the same outfits on heavy rotation. No pun intended.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why does Randi continue to hang out with that transparent social-climber Julia Allison? What a wimp!

    ReplyDelete
  32. One theory circulating is that JA is angling for a j.o.b. at Facebook since she is currently unemployed and NS has tanked.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Julia Allison would die for a job at Facebook but she could never hold down a regular job. She'd totally tank and Randi Zuckerberg and Facebook are idiots if they think Julia would be anything less than kryptonite for them. The Julia Allison Fan page debacle taught them that. Julia is totally unemployable.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 9:35 true...but it's sort of ick to think she's wearing the same white shirt/black skirt everyday for a week. I guess I assumed she was like 99% of women, that buy multiples of things they like and that work.

    ReplyDelete
  35. If Randi's smart(and so far I'm not too convinced of this) she'll keep Julia farrrr away from the Facebook foodchain. Doesn't she realize that everything Julia does turns to shit?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why does she have no business meeting her?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Julia's smelly white shirtMay 7, 2009 at 10:01 AM

candyland, because Julia Allison believes, lives and promotes some of the most anti feminist shit I have ever seen. That she believes women have an "expiration date" is only scratching the surface. If you cant' see that, then you're an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm not a feminist, and even I am offended by an "expiration date". I mean, wtf Julia? Do you live in Logan's Run Land?

  39. Gloria Steinem > Julia AllisonMay 7, 2009 at 10:08 AM

I've never commented before, just enjoyed watching the trainwreck. But her reaction to GS just made me mad.

I met Gloria Steinem last year at a public event and talked to her afterwards about a project I was starting at my school. This gave me so much material that I wrote several posts on the whole experience for my own personal blog. If I can write several pages on her lecture and brief conversation, Julia fucking Allison (lifecaster extraordinaire) should be able to come up with more than ONE SENTENCE about having a private dinner with one of the most iconic and interesting women in the world.
Instead, she has a photo, and nothing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  40. God, she looks fucking terrible. Fat chick and that busted face.

    ReplyDelete
  41. She writes "I" five times in her one sentence response to meeting GS.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You can really tell the botox when she smiles. Her face doesn't move at all.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Julia Allison clearly has enough awareness to realize that THE POSE would not fly with Ms Steinem. The stress of having a camera pointed at her and not going into contortions is showing in her body language. Her hand is actually clenched at her side and that smile is really strained as she fights against her lips trying to purse. The very fact that she didn't go into her usual 'there's a camera!' routine says to me that she is NOT as truly clueless as she seems. If she actually knows what she's doing when she does it then she is not pathetic and sad, she's vapid, vain and shallow, is aware of it and has chosen to go with it.

There are no stirrings of pity, sympathy or sadness for her in my cold heart.

    ReplyDelete
  44. narcissist headbandMay 7, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Where to start? It's not just the "expiration date" comment. I have read interviews with Gloria Steinem where she expresses sadness regarding this new generation of young women...who do drastic things to their appearance in order to remain girl-like and attractive to men (hair removal, botox, plastic surgery, injections, etc...sound familiar JAB?). julia personifies that type of woman who plays into the whole patriarchal system and tries to pass it off as "girl power." Steinem would hate her if she spent 15 minutes talking to her. And Julia, I'm sorry...I don't see you reading Ms. Mag in 7th grade or at any other age. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  45. re: randi z. having dinner with famous peoples and bringing along your bestie. yep, sounds like a made up job to me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Candyland: Are you out of your mind?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Randi looks so much better than JABa here.

  48. They nailed her on the Opie and Anthony show. A slut with a pen, Toolia wrote her own use by date. It's nobody else's fault but her own.

    ReplyDelete
  49. does anyone have a link to opie and anthony? i know it was posted here before, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  50. A few years ago during undergrad, I recall a girl saying that with third-wave feminists, they considered fixing hair and makeup, focusing on fashion, and other such typically frivolous activities as ok - so long as it stemmed from wanting to please yourself, and not some definition of a man.

Like just about anything feminism-related, Julia Allison is the antithesis of the more modern-1990s feminist. In one of the old interviews posted on this site, her favorite designers focus on narrow waists and traditional hourglass figures - because "that's what a woman should look like." Sorry, Julia, but women come in all shapes, colors, and sizes, and beauty shouldn't confirm to the old housewife/pin-up fantasy images of the 1950s. Julia dresses as her perception of a male fantasy girl.

If she wanted to get plastic surgery or botox or a nose job because SHE wanted it because of her own contemplation on her body - fine. I don't agree with plastic surgery generally, but if the surgery is the consequence of much reflection on body images and self-worth, so be it for me to judge. However, it's evident from Julia's years of lying and covering up about her injections and surgeries that her surgeries were because she wanted to appear more desirable.

    ReplyDelete
  51. And that's what's so weird about her. So much damage done to herself to make her look more desirable to men, yet she won't sleep with them, even when she's been going out with them for months.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love that the picture of her with Gloria Steinem is next to one of her pink apartment with teddy bears all over it. It is like she is trying to look like a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm pretty sure she doesn't sleep with men because she is afraid the men will write/comment about their sex.

    ReplyDelete
  54. For Julia's purposes Gloria Steinem could be Charles Barkley. Its all about fame and the photo-op. As 10:08 suggests - its not like Julia has much to say about any of it. Did they talk about botox? About Journalism? Somebody suggested yesterday that maybe Julia should have brought her family connection to Nixon? How many such 'dinners' has Gloria S. had her life? But whatever.

She is elegance Julia. Intelligence. Substance. Try and learn something.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anon 11:59 I had to go look, and holy fancy banana hell! Seriously? All she needs is a Hannah Montana sheet set, and a poster of that guy from that vampire movie where they stare at each other all the time, and her room will look like my 11 year old sister's.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Can I just remind everyone, as Julia's ex-intern, I have met and LIVED in Gloria Steinem's apartment a year ago. Try again Julia, try again.

You seem all accomplished, or try to convince yourself you are, but really when your intern that pretty much quit after dealing with your crap has already done something that was a 7th grade dream for you before you have in your 28 years of age. YOU HAVEN'T MADE IT. Not at all.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Charlsie, I would give anything to hear yet more of your Julia horror stories: we want your dirt!!! And I so appreciate the fact that you actually walked out of that situation with your head held high and openly discussed how repelled you were by Julia and her antics. You're going places Julia can only dream of now, I'd wager.

Any chance you could tell us more of the good stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Has Julia posted any content from her meeting with Ms. Steinam? Do we just get a picture?

    ReplyDelete
  59. We just get a cute little photo of Jules and her BFF with Gloria, TJ. Very insightful stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  60. How long before we start seeing @GloriaSteinem nonstop?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I like how Gloria is prettier than both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  62. She looks fabulous, doesn't she? Had I not known she's 75, I would never have guessed it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Amazing how inner beauty, strength, peace, and self-assurance radiate through your exterior. The only thing radiating from Julia is the greasy sheen of Blueprint juice.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hi Charlsie! I have one question, if you don't mind: Does she "get" what she is doing to herself? Is she as clueless and vapid as she seems or this some kind of cunning, masochistic game she is playing? I'd love to know how she acts interpersonally, whether she uses self-deprecation as a defense mechanism (to a fault, severely) or to create some reality-show villain character that she can market like Omorosa or Spencer Pratt. Both, I'm sure, and I know you weren't there very long ... but I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.

    ReplyDelete

  73. Gloria is in her 70's, folks. Those other two gals are barely clinging to their 20's.
Not only does she look stunning next to them in comparison, but she outclasses them in every way, shape, and form. The end.

    ReplyDelete
  74. meaning that it makes me feel uncomfortable, on many levels, mixed with a little grossed out, but still intrigued, and also confused, but not totally perplexed, and at a loss for actual words, because it's really a pretty ridiculous statement, kind of ironic, mixed with some misogyny, kind of true, but still just lame, and ultimately unnecessary.

  76. Julia Allison Baugher riding on the coattails of (really, is this girl a total idiot?) Randi Zukerberg, who is riding on the coattails of her brother Mark. Or as Julia fondly twitter stalks him as, "Zuck".
    Ergo, facebook must be stopped!!
Damn you crazy yet rapidly aging 20 somethings and your ubiquitous social networking.

  78. The caption for this could easily have been "Sandusky Junior League attends the Women Now conference in Dayton. Pictured, Mrs. Gary Klein DDS, and Mrs. Philip Schwartz, CPA with Gloria Steinem."

    ReplyDelete
  79. This Julia Allison Baugher twitterea is suspicious: "Going to meet Gloria Steinem, who's having dinner with Randi. Sort of freaking out."

Dinner with Randi and Ms. Steinem and who else I wonder? Were 20 other people there? Was it some kind of talk/event/meet-up? Or was it really a one-on-one with Randi? Is Miss Zukerberg expensing this trip to NY as offical Facebook business? Did Facebook pay for Julia's dinner/drinks etc?
Sure the two attention whores got their pictures taken with Ms. Steinem so they could blog about it, but what's really going on behind the scenes here? Just asking.

    ReplyDelete
  80. This is Randi Zuckerberg's twitter from the meeting:

"As if the day could get any better, I had a private dinner with Gloria Steinem! Wow. I am still speechless hours later. about 11 hours ago from TwitterBerry"

    This is Julia Allison's twitter:

Going to meet Gloria Steinem, who's having dinner with Randi. Sort of freaking out. about 16 hours ago from txt"

Randi clearly had a dinner (PRIVATE!! -- she is learning Julia's skills of self promotion) with Gloria - NOT Julia. Julia says she is meeting them. She probably just crashed afterwards for a photo. What a sleazeball.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 2:11 - Private doesn't mean 2 people. Private means not open to the public. So it could have, and was, more than just the 3 of them.

Also - why do people call self promo a skill. As in, Julia Allison is skilled in self-promotion. Anyone I've ever met is very able to talk endlessly about themselves and plaster there name all over there self-owned and operated blogs. Lacking modesty and discretion is not a skill, its a flaw.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love how "having dinner" with a legend has produced thrilling content!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anon 2:22: Thanks Mary! (and I totolly agree!) Love you're new cite!
    : )

    ReplyDelete
  84. I thought it was some kind of honour dinner by the NYC Council, and there were like 75 people there?

    ReplyDelete
  85. maybe julia is gay? and can't handle it? and that's why it never works with guys? because she's not really into guys?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Both of their tweets "massage the truth." It was a event with a bunch of people - not some intimate get together with just the tree of them. Julia didn't even go to the event - she just crashed afterwards for a photo opp.

    ReplyDelete
  87. She's probably into Randi's brother. Damn he's cute. If he were only poor, with a drinking problem or perhaps an xbox addiction I'd be all over that almost-ginger.

Oh, and if he didn't have that hot asiacan gf.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Funny enough, Julia actually HATES Mark Zuck, according to what Jakob wrote about him at the old jakobandjulia website. He said something about how she seemed to really dislike him and hated his "limp handshake". Supposedly he's quite socially retarded, hence the reason he gets his sis to represent Facebook otherwise. Even though sis has a big potato head and little yellow rat teeth. I'm sure she has a lovely personality though.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah, but Julia Allison said she didn't like Mark Zuckerberg before he got really huge and it was all over the news that Facebook was "worth" billions of dollars. As soon as Julia heard that, she was all over the Randi Zuckerberg "friendship" - crashing her bachelorette party in Vegas and angling for an invite to the wedding/chance to get to Mark. He totally blew her off and she's been riding Randi's coattails/the Facebook brand to this day.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I'm just curious, and I'm not at all defending JA on this topic, but what is everyone's definition of a feminist? I don't consider myself a feminist in the least, but when I wrote that once, someone shot back at me and said, "Well do you believe in reproductive rights for women? Then you are a feminist." Maybe that's all it takes to be a feminist in JA's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Allison: there is no one "definition" of a feminist and everyone has their own idea of what being a feminist means. However, you can take one look at EVERYTHING that Julia Allison espouses on a daily basis and almost everything she believes, does, says and demonstrates in the public sphere does not fall into even the loosest definition of what being a feminist means.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Maybe we could refer to JA as a "vaginal American" instead of feminist.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Oh Allison. Do you believe men and women are equal? That they should be paid the same money for equal work? That women should have reproductive control over their bodies? That they should be able to vote and be considered for all the same higher offices than men?

    Then you are a feminist.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I guess I am just naive when I think that all you said above Sheeeeesh is just common sense. But don't you think JA believes in all that too?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Allison - Julia has said multiple times that women have an "expiration date." That cannot be construed as being a feminist statement in ANY context. And from following her blog and the fucked up shit she says on a daily basis, do you really think Julia is empowering women? Everything she does or says is shaped in the context of men. It's disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Here's what I don't get. Randi is wealthy. So why won't she whiten her teeth? Protesting against beauty trends? I hate to even ask that because I know how we rag on Julia for her fakeness, but teeth whitening is kind of considered a normal part of maintaining one's appearance, especially since she's the public face of the company.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I don't think teeth whitening is a normal part of keeping up an attractive appearance. I do believe her dad is a dentist so I'm guessing if she wanted she could very easily have it done.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Allison

I don't consider her a feminist because she appears to view everything through the lens of attracting a man. To me a feminist values herself as a human being, a thinking, feeling, doing person whose value is not based on being physically beautiful or an object of sexual desire. Whose value is not in how she looks, how desired she is, or what man she is with. Whose life is based on her contributions and her accomplishments and not on her appearance and who she's dating and that person's accomplishments.

I think Julia based nearly all of her actions and career on being sexually desirable to men and on using her appearnace and sexuality to advance in life.

She also says repeatedly how one is to keep up their beauty until marriage, then let it go, suggesting that women need to stay physically attractive for their goal of ensaring a man then when this goal is met beauty won't matter any more and implying therefore that it was all for getting a man and not for simply being happy with your own appearance.

There's a lot more but those are some reasons why I don't see her as a feminist regardless of what parts of Sheesh's comment she agreees with. But yes the definiton is subjective but I think it's kind of hard if you're familiar with JA to construe her as remotely feminist. But again it depends on your definiton.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Allison
I thought you went to college. As such, I'm amazed that you don't seem to possess a basic understanding of the concept of feminism.

    ReplyDelete
  100. 6:00: I did go to college. I even took a Women's Studies course, but I dropped it after once class because it didn't interest me at all. I wasn't actually asking what a feminist was as I have a general understanding of who a feminist is.

I was simply asking because I was told I was a feminist once because of such, what I think to be, common sense beliefs, and I was told again here yesterday for similar beliefs, but there are apparently many different definitions of a feminist. So, I was asking what everyone else's definition of one was.

    ReplyDelete
