Julia: More Deep Thoughts

"The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials."

Career: "a penetrating and endlessly provocative theorist about the intersections between culture and technology, media and desire."

  1. And that's about as provocative as she gets. Thanks, Jules. About 12 people are awaiting your insights on the collision of these institutions. Barf.

  2. I think that I took a class in called "Culture, Media, and Desire." And I'm not kidding. That was 1998 and by that time that discussion had been going on for 20-30 years. Julia, always decades behind the times.

  3. OK what I want to know is...where's Jack the Bulldog??? Where are the "real" stories now? This is such a crucial time, you think we'd have people who have to interact with this chick coming out from the woodwork because her behaviour is so off-the wall and mean. Strike while the iron is hot people!

  4. forget for a second how ridiculously overdressed she is in that above picture (nice pizza box lectern plaque MIT).
who does she look like? Kirstie Allie right?

    ReplyDelete
  5. @ 9.19:
That wasn't the MIT thing, but some talk she gave in the seediest pub in New York.
What does the career part even mean? I'm lost.

    ReplyDelete
  6. @ 9:23 I believe she feels that the quote sums up/explains her career. She's looking for a answers. Mom called her career an "art project" in the same day these trite thoughts were posted. Be nice if she credit the people she's pulling material from. She doesn't. Just like she doesn't credit Rachel Sklar for all the photos she has up from the magazine awards.

  7. Julia, you are not a "provocative theorist" - the only thing you provoke is rage, and, in a more charitable moment, pity. Her pseudo-intellectual posing is one of the especially ridiculous aspects of her caricature. Yes, I meant caricature, not character.

  8. julia was schooled on twitter, especially regarding her lack of citation.

  10. So, that "insipid" and "banal" shout-out really got to Julia. She will tweet some "deep thoughts" in "quotes" from others to show she is not a navel-gazer! Ego-blogging is not navel-gazing!

    ReplyDelete
  11. http://archive.salon.com/books/feature/2009/04/23/ballard/index.html

That would be a description of JG Ballard that she ganked from Salon. Nice attribution!

She should have taken this one instead, it's much more fitting. "This author is beyond psychiatric help. Do not publish!"

Lastly, with THIS description of him following the previous quote, I wish her luck in measuring up.

"Ballard was living a stable domestic existence of responsibility and respectability in Shepperton, near London Airport, bringing up his three children as a single parent -- his wife having died tragically young -- and squeezing in writing between escorting the kids to school and helping with their homework.)"

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oops, I was a bit late on that one! Heh

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's to sweet that she fails to see how just putting these quotes up with no further context or some reflections inspired by the quotes doesn't make them any deeper and any less random than the other things she posts such as random pictures of airports.
Simply copying quotes from a book or website for her seems to equal demonstrating a mighty intellect, a mind only few can dare to challenge. Pathetic.
What's next, finding out which feminist thinker or philosopher she is on facebook?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wonder if that gem she's talking about is before or after its expiration date, by the way?

  16. To the anonymous commenter who mentioned she looks like Kirstie Alley, I totally agree! I watched her on Oprah this week, and there was something about her that screamed Julia in ten years...only sad thing is that Kirstie has a self-awareness that Julia will never have.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also, Kirstie Alley is talented, smart and reasonably funny and she was in Cheers, has a career AND she doesn't take herself too seriously.
    Julia on the other hand...

  18. You know what Jack the Bulldog is like? That episode from Sex where Samantha goes and finds a girl to tell Carrie that Natasha gained *gasp* 10 lbs in college and *gasp* was caught in the shower with a guy. OMG WHAT A SCANDAL.

Who the fuck cares? So guys peed on her door? Woop. I mean, other than NORMAL college antics, I call FAIL on Jack the BullDog. Can pull something out that is actually jaw drop worthy?

    ReplyDelete
  19. That's pretty gross, though, Jacy/New JA. No one peed on my door, choo no?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh please, any bigger stories than what someone can provide having seen her antics at a safe and sane distance would come from those who actually deigned to spend time interacting with her and being around her. DON'T think that'd be Jack, and I shudder at the thought for those who might have. Stories have been all over the net about her Georgetown days forever, google if Jack's aren't doing it for you. I mean, you won't, because you're a fan and don't care. But whatever. It doesn't even seem like she had too many friends in school.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just think it'd be interesting if someone currently caught Julia acting out of "character." Since this is all some brilliant plan on JA's part (supposedly) then what's she like when she acts normally? That is, assuming she's telling the truth. Which she probably isn't, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wonder if she knows what normal is anymore. She's basically doing what celebs get paid to do in movies in reality. I'm sure she has completely lost touch with herself and it's going to suck contuining trying to figure out who she is apart from "Julia Allison". Sad :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. The worst part is she has set herself up for YEARS in such a way that she can never be anything/anyone other than Julia Allison. Well, she could but that would require her getting some self-awareness AND would be a huge blow to her ego. It would essentially call for her to stop thinking she's special or someone of status/importance, which I don't think she could handle.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And I should pity her why exactly? She chose to do this. She ruthlessly throws people under the bus if it helps her. She would nuke critics if she could. She dismisses the "little" people, sucks up to the big shots and disses them if they don't immediately fall for her act.
She deserves everything that blows up in her face because she brought this upon herself. And don't give me the, but girl's got psychological problems routine. If she has any disorder she should have it diagnosed and treated accordingly for me to even consider feeling a tad sorry for her.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gotta agree with 11:04. She has said herself that she doesn't want to go to therapy because she doesn't want to be informed of her flaws. It's easier to dismiss others' opinions of you when they don't have the knowledge, education, degrees and certifications to back up their insight into your problems as they see them, but not so much in the face of a therapist or psychologist. Instead, she consults life coaches and astrologers while running around in circles attempting to extend the longevity of a fraudulent existence. She's almost 30 years old, it's high time for her to suck it up (like everyone else who realizes they might have a problem) and get help, even if her parents aren't the ones telling her she needs it. If she purposely chooses not to, why should everyone ELSE be getting chastised for their views on her? I don't think it's always to say we're holier-than-thou, but this girl has a laundry list of messed up stuff she has done to people and that's the first thing that bothers many. It isn't new, it isn't random, it's hard to take her "so nice" seriously in light of some very nasty behavior. Yes, maybe her parents had/have high expectations and coddled her too much in life, but that's nothing to ride on. There comes a point where you recognize you can't keep giving excuses for why you are how you are, but should start finding ways to truly become a better person and acting on them. It doesn't come in the form of superficial self-help regurgitation on a very public blog. Julia Baugher became Julia Allison to distance herself from an embarrassing past (again, that she brought on herself), now Julia Allison will have to become someone else yet again, in order to do the same.

  26. Hey. Julia. "You can't polish a turd".

  27. i went to a fancy college and i was the poor kid there. there were rich spoiled kids who were just jerks and threw away all that was handed to them. and there were kids who had been given everything and really took it as a starting point for working incredibly hard and being kind and decent, too ... just with advantages. i came to admire the latter and feel sorry for the former.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i dont like poor people.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Spoiled kids rarely ever make anything of themselves, because that sense of entitlement that comes from never having to work for anything is hard to shake. It's kind of fitting that way, and that's why they're hell bent on spending money to have their outside image compensate for their low self-worth. "I've never done anything of substance. Let me make it look like I've done something of substance." If they get cut off, they'll go into debt to keep up appearances. That's also why many of them ride on the backs of their parents' accomplishments and wealth. It's all they have to feel good about themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @12:43 -- well said. i have a kid and we are reasonably well off and i think often about how to give my kid what advantages i can but also make clear the importance of hard work

skye 504--You're bringing on the guilt! I'll try to post something about JABA over the next couple of days. I'm a busy, busy guy and simply don't have as much time to contribute as I would like.

Jacy Is the New JA--If you don't like my stories or your slanket gets all in a bundle when you come here, go away, look for stories on the reprobate elsewhere. whatevs. Blah, blah, blah.

Oh, is anyone really surprised that Toolia quoted yet another aphorism out of context, never expanding on that quote and never crediting the author? This is a well-known plagiarist, peoples!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Julia's comments just reflect the kind of pseudo-techno-media-corporate-intellectual verbiage that characterizes the whole milieu and 'industry' to which she aspires. None of it means shit, but that won't stop them from putting on endless conferences around the world and country at which she and 'they' will continue to spew it back and forth.

In fact, so much of the economy and the academy is defined by this kind of pointless wanking. Julia is really not the different than most in this regard - other than her usual titanic obnoxiousness and narcissism of which we are all familiar.

GET IT: All the NS contributors are spoiled bitches who won't admit it and are trying to pretend they are something else. And they have never had to work as hard as "me". So thus I will resent them ever more.

    Phew.

For the most part I enjoy the comments on this site as a fun little distraction, but somebody really needs to find a new angle on this particular complaint.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My parents are the authoritarian sort. They've always been scared of letting go and allowing independence (still are), never believed in sparing the rod, and always provided what was considered "needed" or "useful" but according to them, not us, the kids, so there was no spoiling in any way shape or form. We're all independents so even though they had this attitude of "don't work, focus on school", all of us have wanted to do things for ourselves and by ourselves, and the forced dependence had annoyed most of us to the point of leaving home maybe prematurely because we knew we weren't being well-prepared in the situation. They're TOUGHER about achievements in academics and careers than Julia's parents (for instance, they wouldn't stand for ANY of the stuff Julia does and it just wouldn't happen anyway). Sure, her parents have accomplished a lot and may expect the same from her and her brother, but I don't see that pressure being put on her the way she makes it out to be. They have let her get away with ALOT, actually permit her frivolity and all that and joke about what she's doing rather than ever putting their foot down and saying "stop this nonsense and grow up". The girl has no idea how good she has it, really. She has been given a lot of freedom and she's wasted it entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just realized she gets enormous amounts of support from family that many could really only wish for. Or maybe the word support is interchangable with enabling... but maybe they don't even see it? She takes and abuses their support just like she would (and has) every other person, as well as whatever they have that she feels she can use. I see this as being the worst part of it all; she treats her family with no consideration and that's even worse than the people who aren't even all that close to her.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Don Juan - really we know the fameball component of new media is complete bullshit, circle-jerking and talking in vague buzzwords. There ARE actually people who are trying to change how media is viewed, and you can bet they are rarely if ever in the company of these numbskulls. It's the difference between people who have a genuine interest in fully knowing and reforming the genre, and people who latch onto it as a trend, a way to attempt to distinguish themselves from the rest by being on the edge of THE NEW THING! It's not entirely new, the real players are DOING rather than attending conferences and reporting (or not, in her case) on what they heard. It happens in every industry. It's just that as print media is slowly fading, those who would angle for jobs there OR to be IN traditional print media are now trying to find out where the hell they're gonna go when they run out of that option. Oh, THE INTERNET.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Addendum to my last post - that was kind of the irony of Julia going to MIT, not to mention their INNOVATION club, and advising that they make friends or connections with "reporters". Old media reference, otherwise she would've (and really should've?) said bloggers/online journalists, whatever the applicable replacement word would have been for new media. It just adds on to her being all gung-ho for the new media craze when ALL her success - aside for the shitshow that is her brand online right now, and that's NO success - came from traditional forms of media. Nothing groundbreaking or innovative in the least, just the same old shit.

Jacy Is the New JA--I certainly wasn't friends with the revolting Ms. Baugher when at university; just had the misfortune to attend three courses with the narcissist headband. Oh, the braying! I also watched our lady "work," in more ways than one, at her med school library gig. And yes, I've got a few pretty good stories, some that will not be told in order to protect those who simply had the misfortune of being in close proximity to a sociopath.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So it's safe to assume that we've all pretty much resolved that Jacy Is The New JA is Julia right? Or her interns, whatever. That's just like...a fact at this point, right?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Julia gives communication majors like myself a bad name. I'm out of college now and desperate for my big break in movies or television as an actress/screenwriter, but if all else fails I'd be a reporter for an independent outlet or maybe even a lawyer hellbent on taking out Big Food corporations. Anyway, for 4 years I got blank stares when I told them what my major was. These were people who'd never heard of authors like Professor Robert W. McChesney or even read Noam Chomsky. These guys force you to think and really make you realize how the media does play such a huge role in our lives, every day. Politics, entertainment, finance, it all comes back to one thing: media. They shape our perception of everything and watching it become so dangerously commercialized, and people become mere commodities is what's scary. What does Julia have to say about this? Nothing. So long as she can pose, preen and bray for the schmos over at Fox News, she's happy. She's more than happy to feed the machine that oppresses millions. Meanwhile decent journalism and our ability to inform ourselves with real reporting is collapsing all around us. I went to a Jesuit university just like Julia. I'm a petite brunette with some fairly decent writing skills just like her too. I'd kill for the ability to command an audience, even if it's small and even if they're not all fans and she completely abuses and mis-uses that power. Mommy and Daddy need to get her some help, stat.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Let's sum up the past two weeks:

-Julia "speaks" with the Innovation club at MIT. She's invited to speak by the man she went with to Senior Prom.

-Julia poses behind a podium which she never spoke from (she spoke at a table with the students) and pretends to talk & make hand gestures while speaking.

-Julia tells a blogger that she dislikes Kodak despite Kodak's recent sponsorship of her brand.

-Julia supposedly has many conversations with great minds in Boston but is unable to blog a single sentence about some of the amazing things she supposedly learned.

-Julia uses her frenemy's pictures from the magazine awards and doesn't bother crediting the friend for taking the photos (R. Sklar).

-Julia blogs/twits quotes of others and NEVER cites the sources.

-Julia has her bestie, R. Zuckerberg, change all her friend requests into instant fans on Facebook. Not only a pathetic move but she accidentally makes supposed "real" friends into fans.

-Julia tagged as most insipid twitter user by New York Magazine.

-New York Post slams Julia with plastic surgery item.

-Julia is a last minute no show at the plastic surgery documentary premier. Says she has notified producers, but twitter shows proof that the organizers of the panel re: the movie, were frantically looking for Julia and begging for replacements.

-Mom calls Julia's career an "art project".

-Meghan now provides more content than Julia. Even if Meghan's content is light bulb reviews, it's still content!

    Did I miss anything?

    ReplyDelete
  42. ...Just re-read that last post. My point was: New media could have the power to change things for the better if we jump at the chance now and really work hard. Entertainment, communications, media whatever, really does effect people in big ways. If we used it to empower millions of people by giving back their voices by working hard and working together that would be HUGE. And she just wants to do big spreads celebrating her awesomeness and cute blair waldorf/charlotte york meets carrie bradshaw/whatever TV character she's impersonating now thing. Oh if only we could've somehow switched bodies all those years ago, what I would have done...

    ReplyDelete
  43. TJ you missed how she blogged from the hospital where her friend was receiving treatment for his cancer. Complete with picture of his blood in tubes!!

  45. Jack the BulldogMay 2, 2009 at 3:17 PM

Anon 2:56--JITNJA Probably has some link to our dear Toolia. Our Lady does like to challenge folks to "bring it on." When they do, however, Julia will lash out with a vengeance--most narcissists tend to react very angrily when the curtain is pulled back--before retreating, pretending nothing has occurred, and going on to engage in more disreputable actions designed to draw attention to her soulless, braying self.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Seriously, this is even more tedious than Meghan reviewing light bulbs she previously broke.

If this really comes from JA's vicinity, for crying out loud, spend all this energy on turning your stupid project into something other than a turd painted pink or just drop of the radar for at least forever.

Anon2:56: Not Julia, but another lone crazy person who frequently shows up here to show ass and poses as about 20 different anonymouses at once, having a loony dialogue with herself just to stir up shit over some imagined slight, I guess. It's really obvious. Spelling, grammar mistakes are often the same, sentence structure, phrases, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @3:13-I thought about the blood in tubes but am still so disgusted that I avoided even typing it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @3:15 Whether you were being sarcastic or not, I come from the school of thought that values collaboration versus oppression/elitism--but maybe that's just me being a loony 20-something who thinks she knows it all. I was simply trying to say was that Miss JA had a lot of power at one point to do a tremendous amount of good by letting her intellect (that never was) speak for itself rather than her narcissistic personality disorder. She could've used her blog or TV appearances or whatever to do something constructive, but instead made it all about her "hotness" and having people adore her for breathing. You could almost say she's like Sarah Palin, all style, no substance.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @skye504 ... so unfair to sarah palin (lol)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Just gotta love these fresh outta college kids who think they're special snowflakes (not including Snowflake) and that they've reinvented the wheel.

Skye, you can trash Fox News all you want, but unlike MSNBC and CNN (which fit in more with your blatant politics), Fox hasn't put Julia on the air in more than a year. As for Sarah Palin, disagree with her all you like, but she made it to mayor and then governor without any of that elite shit about which you keep bitching and whining. What have you accomplished, that you can look down on her?

At first I thought you're interesting, but now I'm assuming you're just another wannabe who's here to bash Julia while trying to get the fame and be what Julia aspires to be.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @[redacted].... it reminds me of the line in Clueless ...."Is Josh giving you shit because he's going through his post-adolescent, idealistic phase?"

I really do find it endearing, I wasn't being sarcastic. But...I guess I'm just a jaded old bitch. lol

Found by Julia in the ancient "Confucius say" dating column about finger-banging and not putting out till the 11th date.

  54. Can someone get Jackles a dictionary?! She clearly has no idea what "idyll" means, but uses it (incorrectly) anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anon @ 4:40, I think I'm the jaded old bitch, seeing as how I'm the one who doesn't find her endearing.

Anon @ 4:41, I don't know polishing gems with friction, but I'm sure Julia has a lot of experience in polishing turds, and then trying to pass them off as gems.

Anon @ 4:44, yet another "i" word that Julia overuses, despite the meaning totally eluding her.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TJ, you remember that finger-banging item about Julia and the tool from Men's Health, right? First it was an obvious BI in the NY Daily News and then went straight to Gawker.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yup. How could I forget? I never used the term prior to seeing the item. I've not forgotten it sense. It's much more effective than 'fingering'.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm not bashing simply Fox News. I tend to have issues with most mainstream news outlets because of the fact that while their job is to inform us. As someone who has worked in the news industry I've seen firsthand how good stories get killed because some of the topics deal directly with companies that have something to do with a news organizations ad sales or the fact that a company owns said news organizations. There's a lot of great reporting out there that deserves to be seen. It's not "content" it's valuable reporting that allows people to make informed decisions and it's dying out. There's no such thing as "liberal" media since everyone's owned by the same corporations that all back each other. If I wanted to be "special" like Julia I'd have posted some nasty picture with my naughty bits exposed and bray like a twit. I prefer to simply go to school, work hard and create respectful relationships, which is more than I can say for Julia. I'm not trying to sound endearing, I'm simply stating my beliefs. You can take them or leave them. As for Sarah Palin, I'm sorry if I upset any of her fans. I can't say I've ever embarrassed myself quite as adorably as her on the world stage. I know that there are plenty of good things in my future so long as I do my research and prepare for them myself, unlike her, I'll be just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm not Julia OR an intern! Sorry to disappoint.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Total Jing, I think your summary should be it's own post, great and cutting round up.

    ReplyDelete
  62. JITNJA........whatever you say.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Skye, I've worked in the news industry (and at one of the largest and best known media companies in the world) far longer than you have, so I really don't need the lecture. Nor do I need to read any more tired cliches about all media being owned by evil corporate overlords who control everything. *YAWN*

Your biases are so blatant, especially since the professors whom you admire are far left-wing and you singled out Fox News for bashing, despite them being the only major cable news organization that has NOT put Julia Allison on the air in a very long time.

I've never said that I'm a fan or not of Governor Palin, but she has accomplished things that most people never could - and she did so without family, money or any other connections. She comes from a blue collar background, her husband isn't a former President of the United States, she didn't go to prestigious schools, but she became the governor of her state. Please feel free to show where anyone here has declared him or herself to be a fan of hers.

One doesn't have to do money shots or screech in public to get attention, but I still stand by my earlier assessment that you are one of the people who show up here looking to upstage Julia and "show her how it's done."

If you're going to "prepare" yourself for a magnificent future, you might want to consider brushing up on grammar and syntax.

    ReplyDelete
  64. TJ, "finger-banging" is so much more vivid and descriptive, while "fingering" is a bit vague.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Here is to hoping that this "Skye" person is a little bit of an "art project" -- much like Julia's "career."

For if i ever have to read "i am a petit brunette" for true and for serious ever again, i am fucking opening a vein.

    ReplyDelete
  66. i am fucking opening a vein.

Hopefully, someone else's, as you are far too interesting and fun to lose!

    ReplyDelete
  67. skye, you are adorable. these comments are taking me back to my early 20s. and for that, i thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @[Redacted]...yeah I guess you are haha. But I mean endearing in the most "pat on the little head" kind of way. I even refrained from saying "awwwwwww!" when addressing her, realizing that she isn't ACTUALLY a little tiny bunny rabbit.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anytime I read "finger-banging" in this site I crack up too.

*YAWN* all you want redacted, but you find skye504 "endearing" because you see it in yourself and you know she's not necessarily saying anything "untrue" - like most cliches. Its not they're "evil overlords who want to control everything" - its just that they're fucking useless as they seek only to maintain the status quo. In my view.

No insult is too great for Sarah Palin or Fox News. And yes - I can't take any so-called news organization seriously that would put Julia Allison on the air or in print. MSNBC or whomever.

I seem to remember a Vimeo where a couple of the girls from NS (including Julia) went to some kind of party over at CNN and ended getting drunk with a bunch of producers from the old Glenn Beck show. Good stuff all that. God bless cable news in the USA.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Couldn't have said it any better myself, Don. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Don Juan, I do find her tedious and cliched, not clever, original or even endearing.

I think it's odd that I worked in the news industry for years and have never seen, heard or experienced any story being altered or disappeared because it might upset an advertiser or some evil corporate overlord, but I keep hearing all about it from people who've either never set foot in a newsroom or are so recently out of school that the ink on their diplomas is still wet. Nobody's ever been able to give me an actual example of this happening, only assurance that it always happens.

Insult anyone you want, but at least make it accurate and based in some form of reality, not just shrill opinion and wishing it were so. I have plenty of disagreements with Sarah Palin, but she's not stupid and she did get to where she is on her merits and hard work. I also have issues with Fox News, but they are the most successful cable news channel -and by far. They're also the only one that makes a clear delineation between straight news and opinion, as in they don't promote Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly as hard news and don't let them anchor news events.

  72. Who cares. That not what I said. Its not about anything being "altered or disappeared" - its about the Pablum they go ahead and broadcast. If one never watched TV news in America one would be so much better off.

Sarah Palin is in fact incredibly stupid. Lots of morons work hard. I know many personally.

  73. This thread turned to resemble a lively discussion at a book club! I love McChesney as well. People should quit condescending the commenter, skye, for starting this discussion. I think everyone is just upset that Julia had an opportunity to do anything she wanted after college and chose the celebrity/sex pundit route before she started "full-time" blogging.

Anyone read the Vanity Fair article on Emily Gould yesterday? I am surprised no one here has brought this up. Gould is a fitting example of someone who learned her lesson and grew up.

  74. dear all,

    SNOOZE.

  75. Don, got any actual examples of why she's stupid?

Yes, it is about news being "altered or disappeared," as this is what Skye the Julia-wannabe wrote upthread a bit:

"As someone who has worked in the news industry I've seen firsthand how good stories get killed because some of the topics deal directly with companies that have something to do with a news organizations ad sales or the fact that a company owns said news organizations."

  76. Anon @ 6:40, do you have a link to that?

I think Emily is what Julia might have been, if she actually worked and didn't expect everyone to love her just because she's JULIA and is deluded enough to believe she is entitled to it.

  78. @6:40, thanks. I've found this to be really engaging too and I couldn't agree with what you said more. I didn't see the article on Emily Gould. What did it say and what's your take on it?

  79. And right on, Don! You totally get what I'm saying!

  81. Oh God. Where do I start. Here's 3 examples:

    1) Threatening to start a war with Russia (um, LOTS of nuclear weapons) when you don't know anything about the situation but only know that this is what your primary foreign policy advisor (Randy Scheunemann - one time neo-conservative/PNAC wanker, and extremely well-paid lobbyist for the Government of Georgia) is telling you to do because you're too STUPID (or too LAZY) to do any research on your own - STUPID.

    2) Insisting on the merits of 'abstinence-only' sex education in schools both before and after your teenage daughter gets pregnant, practically right in front of you - STUPID.

    3) Showing up at rallies full of thousands of people and questioning the "realness" of Obama's "American-ness" while your own husband was for years a member of the Alaskan Independence Party which sought to secede from the very Union which you are running to govern - STUPID.

I can't sit here and argue with you all night redacted. I have to go finger-bang my girlfriend. She's had a hard day.

    Works very hard that one.

  82. Thanks, Anon @ 6:55. I did read that one, and I'm impressed with Emily. At least more impressed than I was with her around the time she left Gawker and that NY Times piece.

She's a bit oversharey for my taste, but I think she's a good writer, so I hope she's going to do some great things.

  83. Oh geez. Once someone starts hauling out the "neoconservative" insult - and the PNAC conspiracy connection, no less - I tune out, because I automatically think "conspiracy kook." A few years ago, I had a long-running online debate with 9/11 "truther" who wouldn't STFU about PNAC and neocons, so that is why I just tune out when that shit comes up in anything.

Finger-banging only counts if you take her to Balthazar and do it in a booth. Gossip column write-up is optional.

  84. Greetings from Alaska. Longtime lurker. I have covered SP for two years. She is astonishingly stupid. Just saying. She honestly believed Africa was a country, not a continent. She was not misquoted. In fact, she has never been misquoted. She really is that stupid.

  85. How it must have burned Jackles with the heat of a thousand suns that she was not once even alluded to in that Vanity Fair piece.

    She will either:

    a. Blog on it and agree wholeheartedly about how mean and unfair Internet commenters are

    or

    b. Write a letter to Vanity Fair and post it on her blog, and then Tweet about how hurt she is that they didn't run it

    Boo.com!!

I think she's on ignore.com. She's so ashamed about not being mentioned in the piece that she's not going to mention it to her readers. BURN.
