Julia: Sending Out Form E-Mails

On May 7, 2009, at 4:26 PM, [REDACTED] wrote:

Hi Julia,

I have a serious question for you. I hope you'll not get offended and will consider/answer it.

You always say things referencing that women need to be thin and attractive in order to get a man, or that you have gotten where you are (were?) in the media in great part due to your looks. Your own looks have taken a rather drastic nose dive in the last few months. Do you think this is why you are becoming less talked about on blogs, etc.? Your appearance has obviously been a huge source of pride for you so I'm assuming it's difficult to loose your looks, do you think the insecurity from that is what causes you to make many of the statements that you do, such as woman 'having an expiration date'? Are you trying to make others feel as unhappy and insecure as you do?

If you thought others were jealous of you, they would now have no reason to be. So, what do you think keeps the hate going?

xoxo, curious

Hello there! Thanks for your note :) Unfortunately, due to the high volume of emails I get, it's hard for me to respond in great depth. I do appreciate your comments, and I'm so happy to have you as a reader!

Have a wonderful day.

xoxo,

  1. Now we know how Randi managed to answer Julia's "fan mail."

  2. @11:22 lolz. I walked away from the computer, after responding, thinking that Randi had schemed up this idea for julia while they were responding to her email. Kind of a tarty response for her detractors!

  3. Wow, that will really help build Brand Julia Allison. A form response! Yay.com!

Send her an email, telling her how much you loved one of the dresses she posted yesterday and how healthy and happy she looks.

Set your timer and cook some minute rice. You'll have something to read while you eat.

    ReplyDelete
  5. it clearly wasn't an automatic reply since it was sent an hour after the first email was sent.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Randi: I know a way you can alienate your audience even more! It's something I learned at facebook! Julia: Oooh, put on my pjs and sit on my bed while I document our friendship and tell me!

    ReplyDelete
  7. ha ha, the person who composed that message to her misspelled "lose." idiots, all of you!

  8. I got this less than five minutes after I emailed her last night:

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of emails I get, I can't respond to every single one. However, I'm sure that if you keep reading my lifecast, you'll see the answers to many of your questions unfold.

In the meantime, you should know that things are always more work than they appear.

    xoxo,Julia

  10. JA: Sort of like the way you misspelled "exercise?"

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't trust her to decide on an auto response. She's probably typing all of these emails herself when she doesn't have an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wouldn't dignify such a nasty e-mail with a response either.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I agree, Anon 11:54.

I can't figure out why people email her this type of stuff. She does plenty on her own that deserves derision. Sending this type of crap just fuels her persecution complex.

Which is worse? Gaining 25 pounds or being illiterate?

I thought so many of you were aspiring or working writers. You couldn't find anyone else to do your dirty work for you?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I find it totes hilarious that Poofy continues to address her "readers," when she provide nothing for them to "read." LITERALLY. She think she Edith Wharton or something.

Memo to Poofy: YOU ARE CORKY FROM THE LIFE THAT GOES ON IN TERMS OF YOUR WRITING AT THIS POINT!

    ReplyDelete
  16. People send her this type of stuff because they imagine submitting it to Jacy, getting it posted here and having everyone cluck about how funny it is.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If nobody here sent her that, she'd invent it herself. Remember when she created that flattering "reader" email from a guy fawning over her, and then mentioning she'd be even hotter if she got in shape? She thoroughly enjoyed publicly setting "him" straight.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Maybe she finally wised up to this game and gave the person who wrote the letter the response they wanted knowing it was going to end up here?

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is the internet equiv of watching Stephen Hawking write a check.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ugh, no that is a form letter. She sent me the exact same thing to a perfectly legit question I had and just added in one sentence in between to make it "personal". It almost would have been better if she didn't respond at all!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm guessing this is going to be an unpopular comment but....the person who sent that email is a bigger joke then Allison, and thats saying a lot. "Your looks have taken a nosedive"? True, yes, but would anyone respond to that? I love the work you people do here but I'm surprised you haven't been publishing the emails that people send Allison that say "hey julia u suck balls. haha!" and then comment that she hasn't responded to you. Lets raise the quality please on our julia-bashing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Julia Allison really needs to consult a brand building expert because she is doing it wrong.

  23. nosedive

    ha ha ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  24. Every time before she's responded to an email from readers here in like two seconds. Clearly she has no good answer for this one and therefore suddenly has a flood of emails and no time to answer them. Have a wonderful day!

    ReplyDelete
  25. i was happy to see that mary had actually gone back and fixed her typos from earlier today... and the latest picture she posted of adrien in the boots made me lol. as for the others...
    meghanaise: zomg, so tedious.
    julia: barfalicious.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm the commenter from 1:05 and wanted to clarify. I do agree with those who said most would not respond to the looks having gone downhill comment but other parts of the email makes points that I think are worth addressing.

Why does JA regularly talk about slaving over looks only to let yourself go after ensaring a man? Why does she oversexualize her dress in professional settings? Why does she seem to frame every topic in relation to men? Why does she think beauty for women must equal pain and discomfort? Those things are worth addressing but I think she usually only responds to flattering emails and to detractors when she has a passive aggressive answer she wants to make known. I've not seen her once respond genuinely to legitimate critique yet.

I do think this is her "form" letter that she might slightly change for each person but probably is not an autoresponse.

She's being all overly confident only because Randi is in town. She's sucking up her positive vibes and playing games with us. We should probably start ignoring her and stop emailing. She deserves no power.

  32. Just for fun, found this on facebook:

Kimberly Vertolli Wow--just found out that in addition to being a fan of Aung San Suu Kyi, Barack Obama, Congressman Mark Kirk, Chesley Sullenberger, and Ani Di Franco, I'm also a fan of Julia Allison?!?! Who knew?

On another note, Ms incorrigible one, have you sweet-talked someone into giving you a ticket to the WHACD? Are you still planning to stay with me? If you get a better offer, give me 24 hours heads up. Thanks, chica--nice to see Planet Julia still spinning wildly...

Good humored, this one. I sometimes think, many of the people she knows higher up the food chain seem to find her genuinely amusing, like the crazy, but loveable nutjob of the family who can't get their act together.

Having Vertolli-Kirk in her commoner fan crowd is even funnier given Julia's raving writing about her in 2006.

  33. Curious asks some excellent questions. The missing question is how Julia feels about being supported at age 28 by her parents. It occurs to me that the silly tweets hinting at career opportunities in NYC are there to gull her parents, so they don't make her move back to Illinois to save themselves bucks. The fear of being cut off by mom and dad may explain her sudden weight gain.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm surprised she isn't working harder on maintaining her appearance right now. Her college reunion (GEORGETOWN, people!!!!) is this month, no?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I believe the reunion is the weekend of the 30th. Have to check the letter they sent yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @5:33 j* is *not* supported by her parents; she has announced that every time. smart money says it's granny who writes the checks. who has the 50 year old collection of LILLY dresses

    ReplyDelete
  38. i am srsly working on my theory that j* is a self hating geigh, which would explain so much

    -- the self loathing
    -- the fractured psyche
-- the inability to have relationships with men
    -- the 24/7 dissembling
    -- the fangirl insanity

  40. @ Ironic Slanket

Is that a real quote of Kim V.'s, who is a VERY GOOD friend of the Baughers...or is that a joke comment? If it's real, WOWSERs. Proof that everyone, including her family's inner circle, is laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. how did the baughers make their money?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Total Jing:
It disappeared (surprise, everyone!) from the facebook fanpage. Either Vertolli deleted it herself upon reflection or the usual took place. Since a negative "why am I your fan?!" comment just below it disappeared as well, my guess is that someone from team Julia deleted it.
A screengrab has, however, been preserved here for the books.

  44. Hello, I wrote the email. I wrote it from my bberry in a meeting whilst I was bored and had been reading RBNS. I admit the spelling isn't perfect. Lose and loose - ha, I suck. That said, I work in finance and am far from an aspiring writer and this wasn't some attempted literary masterpiece. I also wasn't writing this to become super anonymously famous on RBNS.

I'm just genuinely curious what goes through her head. Making a disparaging comment about her current weight was rude, but I thought perhaps it would get a rise out of her and cause her to respond.

I'm 25 years old and how someone my general age can behave so embarrassingly really affects me. She's perpetuating a stereo-type that young pretty girls are all brain-dead assholes who will do anything for a man and should never be taken seriously. If you think this doesn't affect male behavior, you'd be wrong. Her persona really frustrates me and I’m curious, if that’s not the “real her” (which I think it is) why she would perpetuate such a terrible ideal.

Plus, she is fug now, so I think it's fair game.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Did anyone else watch 30 Rock last night? More importantly, did anyone else notice the similarities between JA's "Time Out" cover and Liz Lemon's "Time Out" cover? Dressed in red, mouth agape, fake nose, white background, looking ridiculous, possible inclusion of rubber chicken....

    I'd love to see a side-by-side.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I saw it and cringed: now Rankled Jankles has another Liz Lemon/Tina Fey parallel that you know she'll no doubt be braying about all over her neglected liecast.

How pathetic is it that Julia keeps posting her travel schedule for 2009 - with all of the old dates included? Way to live in the past, dough girl!

    ReplyDelete
  48. There were plenty of ways to get the message across without making catty comments about her looks. How does that not perpetuate a stereotype?

    ReplyDelete
  49. And why does the "travel schedule" block out times in NY. You live here, dummy. You don't need to list that on you travel schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 1027 - what stereo-type is that?

  51. I hear the finance industry is the best to be tooling off in a meeting by writing hate mail to a cewebutard. The jobs in that industry are totally safe.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ha! I'm a part of the Burn community and I gotta say, Julia won't last one day out there in the desert. Not to mention she'll be pissing everyone off by not contributing at all and taking photos of folks who didn't give her permission. The event will kick her ass, and I will sit by and watch with popcorn in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yes, 1105, if you are caught at any point during your 18 hour work day doing something non-finance related you are immediately fired. thats right on. fuck wad

  55. I think Julia Allison merits every bit of the derision she attracts on this site, but I do wonder why commenters here bother to email her. It seems like empty game-playing to me. If I were her--and thank the good Lord I am not--I wouldn't respond, either.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dyspeptic,

I agree. We write on here constantly about how much she distorts the truth and then people write her right away when something comes up to ask for confirmation or to ask her her motives. Obviously this can't be because someone is seeking a genuine answer since that clearly won't be forthcoming. So what is the reason?

I think all it does is fuel her ego and give her opportunity to volley back a passive-aggressive, catty, or self-important reply to the emailer and those reading.

    ReplyDelete
  57. All it does is give her satisfaction. I wish we'd stop emailing her. I don't like her enough to even bother.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Me too, Sausage Snappers. I hate that we are giving her even more opportunity to inflate that already overbloated ego of hers. I wish RBNS would not post the emails here. She gives no format for public feedback about her so-called content on her site, but we allow her specific feedback on what we talk about every time someone emails her and we post her reply here. I just don't see what people are looking to get out of it, what's the point? What is she going to say other than either an obnoxious, dismissive, or only true in the "legal" sense type reply anyway?

Because Toolia espouses a standard that even she is unable to uphold, because she is too hypocritical and/or deluded.

She's the one that promotes starved and unexpired women as the height of aspiration. We take pleasure in reality biting her in the ass.

    ReplyDelete
  62. There was no point to this e-mail other than to be mean.

I'm 25 years old and how someone my general age can behave so embarrassingly really affects me.You should be embarrassed at the fact that you sent such a letter in the first place. You wrote it to hurt her feelings and shame her. Have the balls to fucking own that. Don't make up some bogus excuse about feminism or stereotypes or whatever, especially when you stoop to nothing but catty, petty, bitchy behavior yourself.

She puts enough bullshit out there that can be used as fodder for this blog. Do people really have to create blog content in this manner? What was she supposed to say?

"Oh my goodness, you're so right! I have really relied too heavily on my looks and not it appears that karma has bitten me on my size 8 ass. Thank you SO MUCH for pointing this out to me!"

It's one thing to write stuff on here, as she can choose not to read it. It's another to dirty bomb her with an e-mail that starts off with some passive aggressive phony opening constructed for no other reason than to trick her in to reading the rest of the message.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes, e-mailing her is stupid. Dyspeptic is right.

Guessing that her mother's friend's tweet was some huge OMG slapdown....yes, stupid again.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Right. As a response. So I don't feel bad in the least bit. She has done mean things to people - maybe even the person who wrote the email - so she deserves it. And it WAS a real question. She "puts it all out there" - remember? So that includes answering the tough questions - such as, now that your looks have gone extinct, what do you plan on doing next? Or are questions about cupcakes and nail polish the only ones that are ok?

It's not even her "mother's friend," where do you get the information? A bunch of tarts in here. Just leave if you don't like what you see on the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  67. And Julia was a maid of Honor at the Kirks wedding, not Randi's wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Christian, uhhh, forget about taking the moral high-road and trying to shame other commenters (and the person who emailed the letter).

The email, despite being a little nasty (and really, does Julia deserve anything better), asked some really smart questions that Julia should consider: does she believe that the decline in her professional popularity is a direct result of the decline of her looks? Is it because her "expiration date" is finally approaching?

People exist in contexts. I would never, ever, ever say one mean word to or about an ugly girl who doesn't think appearances are everything and flatly says so. I am more than happy to rip apart hideous, doughy fuckettes like Julia who set up standards that even she cannot live up to.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Interesting criticism from someone once disemvowelled on Gawker for calling JA fat ....

    ReplyDelete
  70. GawkerFan, are you talking about Christian or someone else? I'm sadly not too familiar with any Gawker commenters.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Dahling: Not you, just noting some of the hypocrisy rampant among the scolding commenters here at times. If C. is who I think she is on Gawker, she has said awful things about JA's appearance and weight. I could be mistaken, though, she might not be who I thought she was. I recall her idenitifying herself on here a long time ago and thought it was the same person who has had really awful things to say about JA. And no, I am not JA, but I am a friend of hers!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Of course its C. GawkerFan. She had about 3 aliases on Gawker to obsessively tear down JA. I'm not a Julia fan AT ALL but C.M. is obsessed. She's bummed out that her dating advice blog/site whatever gets no attention and JA, though getting bad attention, does get noticed.
